The Routine

Screen Shot 2013-12-12 at 11.49.59 pm

Sometimes, I cannot believe that I am actually almost 30 years old.
It felt like it wasn’t too long ago when I was still an undergraduate, in my late teens,
having the time of my life.
When I try to make myself feel better, I would always tell myself that a woman is at her most attractive in her 30s.
(but I do agree to some extent so it is not entirely just something I tell myself in self denial)
A woman in her 30s is wise, mature, confident and most probably knows how to carry herself well.
If that is not attractive and sexy, I don’t know what is.

Fortunately for me, I’m living in a time where modern science has helped slow down the ageing process
and there are so many new ways to make “looking pretty” more attainable.
These are some of my favourite beauty treatment, gadgets, go-to places and products –
you might want to try them if you think they might help you too. πŸ™‚

Not all of us are as lucky as Salma Hayek to have a face so gorgeous we can get away with a unibrow
(erm, and moustache).

Screen Shot 2013-12-12 at 9.55.37 pm

Still, her unibrows actually got quite a character. Haha!
You should try googling bad eyebrows and see what you can find.

Truth is, getting the perfect eyebrows is quite a lot of work and it is just not time-efficient
to try to get those perfectly drawn brows every single morning.
That was why, after much consideration, I decided to get brows resurrected at Browhaus.
I was a little hesitant about the procedure at first because it sounded almost like tattoo,
and I was afraid it might be quite painful.

I am quite a hairy girl (hurhur!) and I didn’t have to go through the eyebrow-less headaches.
But the problem with my eyebrows is that the ends are always too light
and I HAVE to fill in the gaps before I head out.

If you haven’t heard about Browhaus Brow Resurrection before,
check out this next video where DJ Rosalyn Lee gets her own Brow Resurrection treatment.

It’s a special technique where fine hair-like strands are lightly scratched into your brows.
All Browhaus specialist have to be go through a strict training academy to perfect this technique.
The treatment starts with a consulatation with my brow specialist, Lydia,
who I shared with my brow preference and the look I’m hoping to achieve.
She then recommended different Brow Designs based on my preference and original brow shape and facial features.
Afterwhich, she re-created different Brow Designs by drawing strand-by-strand strokes on my brows
to mimick the effect of Brow Resurrection.
She then explained to me why she needed to shape my brows in a particular manner and
made minor adjustments to my brows until I’m satisfied with the look.
Next, I get to choose my Brow colour. Browhaus uses 100% safe natural vegetable dye.
When choosing between two shades, Lydia recommended that it is better to opt for the lighter shade.
If I plan to have darker brows, I can always use a darker shade during my touch up.
She then applied their numbing cream on my brows.
It took about 20 minutes for the cream to take effect before the actual treatment started.

With their numbing cream and a trained specialist, there is really zero pain involved.
The only downside, is probably just the slightly darker brows you’ll experience for the first 1 to 2 days.
This is me immediately after the treatment. Looks a little bit Shinchan-ish. :p
But I’m loving the shape of my brows!

A picture with my brow specialist Lydia at their Raffles City Basement Outlet.

And after the colour fades a little, I get the perfect brows I have always wanted.
(Minus the morning eyebrow shaping routine! Shiok!)

I like how my brows look all made up even if I just rolled out of bed in the morning. :p

Another thing I simply cannot live without are my monthly facials and pampering treatments.
I used to think that facials are not necessary but as I get older,
I start to realise how important it is to look after our skin while it is still youthful and healthy.
My skin was alright before I started having monthly facials, but now it is more hydrated and I get breakouts less often.

I’ve only had facials in two other places before but my current aesthetics clinic is my favourite so far!
Professional, clean and a cozy environment to feel pampered and energised!

Dermacare is definitely a place I’d call luxurious and prestigious!
Everything from its location, decor, service and products are all premium and of high quality.
Other than offering services like facials and aesthetics procedures, they also carry their own skincare line.
They are one of the winners for Her World Beauty Awards too!

One of the procedures I swear by is their Hydrafacial!
It is a non-invasive procedure that procedure that does cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating all at once.
I used to think extractions are the most painful thing about facials
(this always makes me think twice before I make an appointment for my facials in the past),
but with the Hydrafacial machine, there is no squeezing at all!
It uses a gentle vacuum-based probe to extract impurities.
And while the probe is “sucking”, there is a cooling “bath” that constantly soothes the area where the probe is on.
It is a little hard to explain how it exactly feels but it just feels super good! Haha.

DSC01513

The “bath” contains active serums that helps with anti-aging, hydration and acne-prone/oily skin.

DSC01511

Oh! And the treatment room is super comfortable.
No iffy looking curtains or noisy rooms where you can hear the conversation between the customer and beautician next door. :p
Some of the rooms come with their own private shower rooms too!

DSC01517

Feeling fresh-faced even without makeup.

DSC01518

Another treatment I tried at Dermacare is RevLite (Laser Skin Rejuvenation).
This is my best anti-aging friend! *YAY*
It is a simple 15-minute procedure with zero downtime and works better than anything
because it goes straight into the skin to the root of the problem – the collagen!
I won’t say this procedure is entirely pain-free but it is very, very bearable.
Plus, you can also request for numbing cream to make it more comfortable for you.
But the effects are AMAZZZZIIIINNNNGGGG and one other thing I like about it is…
IT WILL BURN AWAY ALL THE FACIAL HAIR! πŸ˜€
Ok, not exactly burn away the hair but the hair follicles will be destroyed in the process and over time,
my face will be silky smooth with completely no hair. Weeee!

IMG_9911-001

See, no more moustache after just one treatment. Hurhur! :p

If you would like to try out their services or bring your Mom for a pampering afternoon for Christmas or something,
here are some details about Dermacare!

And of course, no clear skin can be achieved without a reliable and effective cleansing regime.
And my best friend at home would be my beloved Clarisonic!

DSC02014

I have heard a lot of horror stories about Clarisonic, people getting breakouts after trying it etc.
But it works magic for me!
I think slowly getting your skin accustomed to the machine helps.
For me, I started using it once a week, then every alternate day.
Currently, I use it once a day at night to make sure I cleanse the makeup off of my face
before I put on my skincare products.

– – –

And as much as I have my own IPL machine to do my underarms area, I’m too lazy to religiously IPL my entire leg!
So that’s where my trusty epilator comes into the picture.
My previous epilator is also from Braun and I bought it at around $100+ I think.
But Braun is really nice to send me one of their new Braun Silk-epil 7 SkinSpa which works both as an epilator, shaver, and also comes with an interchangeable brush head!
It works almost the same as the previous model but now it has more interchangeable heads to play with.

Braun Singapore would also like to give away a brand new set of the Silk-epil 7 SkinSpa with this blog post.
If you want to try your luck, LIKE the Braun Singapore Facebook Page and
leave me a comment at the end of this post with the number of fans at the Braun Facebook Page after your LIKE.
Please also include your real email address in the email field if not I will not be able to reach you!

That’s all from me today and I’ll squeeze more time to blog and be back with more stuff!
