A and I checked out this little bar & cafe at Boon Tat Street yesterday.
It was a nice little place with friendly (but somewhat strange, I’ll get to that later) waitresses.
And the best thing is, we were the only ones there when we were there!
It is a clean and bright place that looks relatively welcoming.
The two young waitresses who were there that afternoon were pleasant and cheerful too!
The decor was simple but it works for me, I especially liked the little outdoor area at the back of the cafe.
But because it was a little too warm, we chose to dine indoors.
The choices on the menu all looked very attractive!
They serve mostly Western food with a bit of Japanese twist.
I like how they have pictures in the menu too.
Sorry. Pet peeve when it comes with menu with no pictures. Ahem.
Oh! For people who loves all day breakfast, Vanilla can now join your list of “breakfast cafes” too!
Hope you can get an idea of the general price range of the items there from the pictures below as well.
And so I was saying in the second sentence of this post that this place has ‘rather odd’ waitresses right?
Don’t freak out because they didn’t do anything outrageously weird!
Just that after some observation, A and I concluded that the two girls don’t have very high EQ.
Let me explain.
When we first got in, the table was totally empty, no setting of cutlery etc.
So we got in, waitress came over, we ordered.
Then, the waitress came over with two glasses of ice water (ONE)
When our glass of coke came, she walked over with the drink (TWO)
Realized she forgot the coaster, so came by with coaster again (THREE)
Then she brought our Soup Of The Day (FOUR)
And then serviette and one spoon (FIVE)
When the food was ready, she brought my fish with my cutlery and serviette (SIX, WELL DONE!)
Aileen ordered pasta, so the girl later brought the pasta over Pasta with a spoon! (SEVEN)
A and I were laughing uncontrollably.
Walked over to the counter and brought a piece of serviette over (EIGHT)
“Why serviette and not a fork?!?!!”
We then waited for her to come by one more time to pass us a fork but it didn’t happen.
Then we realize she must have forgotten or something.
So we had to request for a fork.
She walks over with a fork (NINE)
Hahaha.
Served desserts with two forks (TEN, WELL DONE TOO!)
I cannot believe the girls had to come by so many times and they keep forgetting stuff.
But if by any means you are one of the people running Vanilla and you are reading this,
please don’t reprimand your girls because they are friendly and nice,
well maybe they just need some training.
That said, the food was surprisingly quite good!
The soup tasted quite good but we thought it can be improved if it was a little thicker.
I liked how they served the soup with English muffin instead of the usual baguette actually!
Aileen ordered Angelhair pasta with Ebiko.
If you like simple pasta dishes but want a change from the usual Aglio Olio, this is a good choice.
I ordered pan seared White Fish with capers and olives and sauteed mushroom.
I love this dish!
The fish was really flavorful with the capers and olives gave a nice finish.
It’s not too greasy and the salad tasted so good with the light gravy from the fish!
*still salivating*
I was so busy eating, I didn’t have the time to look at the camera. :p
Desserts was a little disappointing though, because the ice cream with the molten chocolate cake came melted.
I also spotted this cute looking “dirty” cake.
Vanilla Dirt Cake – it comes in a little pot and it is made to look like soil.
Isn’t it quite cute? Hahaha.
I later knew from a reader that this Oreo cake is quite yummy!
Maybe I should try it the next time I visit Vanilla!
Random. Also spotted Domo-kun saying Bye to us as we leave the cafe.
The bill came up to about $50 plus.
I think I’d go back to Vanilla again. Check it out too, if you’re in the area and want a quiet lunch!
Hope the waitresses won’t be walking to the tables so many times the next time I’m there. Haha.
I am also wearing my brand new shoes from Sœurs!
This shop is only about 2 weeks old and it’s opened by good friend and fellow blogger, Jayne and her sister Jasmine!
Freaking love the shoes because it’s so comfortable to be in and I’m so happy I dropped by their shop!
They also have little accessories and clothes on sale, and the shop is such a happy little place to be in.
Because of the new opening, they are having 50% off for the second pair of shoes purchased now!
I LOVE!
My shoes! Wee!!
I also got this pair in beige! ❤
And this adorable pair in mustard! I LOVE THIS PAIR!
It’s so comfortable to be in!
That’s me and the gorgeous Jayne!
Me and my new shoes!
Pink Dot is happening later and I can’t wait to be there!
A and I bought ourselves some pink tops and also made a little something for Boo to wear!
Before I go, I wanna show you this funny polaroid we took.
We were trying out the pink torch we made for the Pink Dot event, so we wanted to take a creepy picture with lights.
We shone it from chin up and took a polaroid.
But when the picture came out, the flash pretty much made the pink light non-visible.
And we *whispers: especially A* look like idiots.
Maybe the waitress just wanted to have the opportunity to look at you more! Haha =P
