No offence to my friends who are insurance agents.
But I used to think that they are all trying to sell us policies to get that commission.
After knowing A, I realized that we all need insurance policies –
not every different kind of insurance policies but at least the few basic ones.
This might sound like an ad (this is not an ad ok?) but I just want to share this new product
that a personal friend of mine crafted for Liberty Insurance,
and I really think it is pretty awesome for dog owners in Singapore.
And kudos to Carey the big dog lover and Liberty Insurance for coming up with
such a wonderful plan for all of us.
I am an animal lover and I know very well how expensive it is to take care of
and provide for our pets in Singapore.
From the food and supplies, to occasional toys and treats, to accessories
(both essentials and those for our entertainment purpose), to healthcare and medical expenses.
The bills can get very hefty sometimes.
My most recent encounter was with Maliboo’s accident in May this year.
We visited two vets, and the total bills came up to almost $3000.
Thinking back, if I had signed up for the insurance when Carey first approached me,
it would have been less stressful for me financially when Boo’s accident happened.
According to Carey (and A who used to be in the finance line as well),
this is the first insurance for pets in Singapore that covers not only accidental,
death and third party liabilities but also for medical.
(And we all know how medical bills is the main cause for all the hefty bills, don’t we?)
There is another insurance for pets in Singapore but as far as I understand, that one doesn’t cover medical.
Here is a table that briefly shows the benefits for PetCare:
The annual premium for the Standard Plan and Enhanced Plan is S$321 and S$428 respectively.
That works out to only about S$27 to S$36 a month.
If you do not make any claims, there is also a 5% discount off your premium after the first year,
10% discount after 2 consecutive years and 15% discount after 3 consecutive no-claim years.
Here are some of the Pros and Cons with regards to PetCare.
PROS
No medical examination is required
Pet owners can use any registered vets in Singapore
Covers up to 70% of medical and surgical expenses arising from illnesses or accidents
Pets can be as young as 8 weeks old (but no more than 7 years old at enrolment date)
Of course, for such low premiums, there are a few trade-offs.
CONS
Does not cover pre-existing, hereditary, congenital and skin conditions
Does not cover working dogs (eg. guide dogs, guard dogs)
Does not cover illnesses related to endoparasites or ectoparasites; hip dysplasia and rabies
*The exclusions are pretty similar to insurance policies for humans because
generally they don’t cover pre-existing conditions too.
And we are talking about this today because of the love we have for our dogs,
so I hope no one would ever think of intentionally hurting or neglecting your dog just because
someone will be paying the medical bills on your behalf now because
conditions arising from these actions are excluded for claiming!
And good news – Liberty Insurance is also dishing out a 10% off premiums
if you quote SIXPEGS upon signing up. (Yay!)
This offer will expire 3 months from today and is limited to the first 50 sign-ups (whichever ends earlier).
For better understanding of all the criteria and exclusions, you guys can give Carey a call at 9799 1728.
I think she is in the best position to explain all the smaller details on this.
She’s super friendly, I promise.
And with that, I am definitely going to sign Boo up for PetCare.
Hope you guys can give it a thought too if you’re looking for something that gives you better security
when it comes to caring for your doggies!
*Sadly, PetCare only covers dogs right now. We hope they will have something for cats soon too! 🙂
