Drink Milk Fresh!

Ask me about fresh milk.

When I was preparing for the opening of my café, I sampled so many different kinds of
fresh milk available in the Singapore market, now I can name the brand just by drinking a sip.
Heh! Not that amazing yet, but I have a pretty good idea what are the better brands that we can trust.
(And which one tastes better with a good espresso shot) :p

When tasked to educate my readers about the importance of freshness of milk,
I am proud and thrilled because I know how crucial it is to choose good quality and fresh dairy products.

But before I begin, I think we should all know the importance of drinking fresh milk!

I think we all know milk is good for our bones and is a good source of calcium.
But other than bones, milk also encourages growth of healthy and strong nails, teeth and hair!
With the choice of low-fat and fat-free milk in the market right now,
it is also a great choice to curb your hunger minus the excess calorie intake!
Milk is also a good post-exercise beverage because the nutrients in milk can help refuel the muscles
after workout as effectively as some commercial exercise beverages.
I can list so many other great benefits from drinking fresh milk but I shall not nag you no more on my blog. :p

But today, we are talking about the importance of drinking your milk fresh.
So, do you think you’re drinking your milk at its freshest?

Do you know that the expiry dates on your milk cartons works only for unopened cartons?
AVA advise that we should finish our milk within 3 days after opening the carton.
So if you (are like me) like to get the supposedly more value-for-money 2L pack,
it’s time to change your mindset about the whole “value for money” thing because
if you can’t finish your milk in 3 days, you’re no longer enjoying the milk at its freshest.

When we talk about freshness, we also know that it’s not just about how “new” the milk taste
but also about how we might not be able to get the best of the nutrients and goodness the milk has to offer.
To me, even the taste and smell of the milk is affected if the milk is slightly older.

Plus, most of us are not obsessed with milk enough to have a refrigerator just to store our cartons of fresh milk,
so contamination by other food products in the refrigerator is something that might happen too.
That said, keeping food fresh is very important; and I think we all need to know the basic rule
of how to store our food in the fridge as well.
(eg. don’t ever store your meats on top of your vegetables or dairy products in the fridge)

For me, I am an impulsive supermarket shopper.
I am the kind who would buy 3 boxes of cereal and a big bottle of fresh milk and
keep them in my fridge for 2 weeks or until my milk expires. (A scolds me for this ALL the time)
I am going to keep that empty bottle for now because of the upcoming Drink Milk Fresh Campaign!

Drink Milk Fresh Campaign presented by F&N, which has 3 milk brands namely MAGNOLIA,
Farmhouse and Daisy has a great suggestion for us!

Instead of getting the bigger bottles, get a few 1L packs instead.
With proper storage and good planning, I’m sure we will all be able to get the best out of our fresh milk!

As part of the Drink Milk Fresh Campaign, the Magnolia milk truck will be going to 3 locations
in different neighborhoods on 6th, 13th and 20th September 2014 to give you a brand new 1L milk carton
in exchange for your empty 2L milk bottle!
The 2L milk bottle can be of any brand, and variant and it’s limited to only the
first 400 visitors so do be updated of where they will be via Magnolia Singapore’s Facebook Page!

And of course, how can the auntie in me allow myself to miss such an event ESPECIALLY
when it is so near home at Hougang Mall? :p
Nothing beats my comfy neighbourhood-mall-clothes on Sunday mornings!

The Magnolia tea had a booth set up at the mall and also a colourful milk truck carrying
loads of Magnolia 1L fresh milk to give away!
I don’t know if it’s the cheery yellow tops the staff are wearing or just the atmosphere of the roadshow
but it feels like a happy place to be at! :p

OK, looking REALLY like an auntie here.

When I was there, I was also lucky enough to bump into the live reporting being done at the roadshow!
Cai Lilian was there to do a cover of the event to the listeners from 97.2FM!

And my turn to drop my empty 2L milk bottle in exchange for a brand new pack of Magnolia 1L fresh milk!

I was given a choice of their regular fresh milk or the low fat version. I went with the latter. 🙂

Thank you Magnolia for treating us to good fresh milk while educating us about the importance of drinking fresh milk FRESH! 😀

I thoroughly enjoyed the milk I’ve bagged – love how rich and smooth it was! I tried it with coffee
and it made some really nice and milky caffe latte too! :p
If you have missed the event on the 6th September, fret not because the Magnolia milk truck
will be roaming the island and it might just be your neighborhood that you’re going next!
Stay tuned to Magnolia Singapore Facebook Page to find out where the next stop of the Drink Milk Fresh Campaign is gonna be!
