Travel Life Hacks

People who know me in person would know what a big travel buff I am.
My dream is to travel to all continents, and to see all the sights on my Bucket List.
And before I start seeing the world, I want to share how I love some of the amazing countries
we have in Asia – Hanoi, Phuket, Cambodia and even Kuala Lumpur, which is so near us!

I love asking the people around me for some of the life hacks they have when it comes to travelling,
and here is a list of ten travel hacks that I’d love to share with you!

ONE. No more bottles of skin care products!

When I’m going for a short trip and I want to travel light, I turn to straws to keep my skincare products!
Seal up one end of the straw and squeeze your skincare products in them,
and then twist and seal up the other end.
My favourite are clear straws so I can clearly identify what’s in there.
If you’re worried that you might get confused, you can even label them nicely too!

Straws are also great when it comes to packing your necklaces!
Read: no more tangles!

TWO. Dental floss as clothes line

THREE. Bring your Asian food along!

If you’re someone who cannot live without Asian food (like me),
I’d suggest packing some lightweight food with you.
During my last trip to Paris, my three friends and I brought along lots and lots of food.
We went a little crazy and lugged lots of canned food along too.
If you’re staying in a Bed&Breakfast in Europe, I’d recommend bringing some rice,
and light food like beehoon, etc.
And when you’re craving Asian food, you can have yummy food that you miss anytime you want!

FOUR. Ladies, bring a good shawl!

My MUST-BRING item for almost every trip is my trusty shawl. Why?

A good shawl can not only keep you warm when you’re cold, be a wrap when you go on a beach holiday,
use it as a turban for your hair, transform into a good pillow when you’re on the flight,
or even a blanket when you need an extra cover on your flight!
If you’re creative, you can even turn a shawl into a top or a bottom! Go crazy!

FIVE. Don’t overpack. Mix and match your apparels before your trip!

This is something I’d do for every single trip.

I would imagine what I’m going to wear and bring items that are versatile
and can be worn in different ways to maximize the items I’ve packed in my luggage!
Maybe you can try this too!

SIX. Pack bras inside your hats!

Do you always worry about your bras going out of shape in your luggage, and hats all flattened?
If so, perhaps you can try stuffing your bras into your hats,
the hat can help protect your undergarments and the undergarments can help retain the shape of your hats!

SEVEN. Collect some shower caps!

I love collecting shower caps because they come in so handy during trips!
They work really well to help keep your clothes and bag clean when you’re bringing many pairs of shoes
along for your trip!

EIGHT. Ditch all your travel size products and start investing in a pretty set of reusable bottles!

Why buy and throw multiple bottles of shampoo, shower foam and what not
when you can get a set of pretty bottles to house your products on every trip?
They would normally fit better in your cosmetic pouch as well, and much prettier in pictures
if you’re the kind who would take lots of pictures around your hotel room. :p

NINE. Be extra safe

Take a picture of scan your passport and itineraries and email them to yourself.
In this case, even if you were to lose anything, you can still easily retrieve these important information
on a computer anywhere. And don’t forget to log out if you’re using a public computer!

TEN. Unpack moderately

Don’t take everything out of your luggage once you reach your hotel room,
only take out the necessary and don’t leave your things hanging around.
Trust me, this will help make sure you remember to take all your stuff with you when you check out!

Have I tickled the wanderlust in you? If so, then you’ll have to learn more about HotelClub,
a global online accommodation community for travellers in the know!
They dish out Club Benefits every time their members make a hotel booking, including extras when they stay,
up to 7% Member Rewards back on bookings, Priority Club Service, and many many more.
These reward points can be used on your future travels. And the best thing is –
these Member Rewards can be redeemed for your next trip to ANYWHERE, ANY TIME!
They can also be used in conjunction with other offers/promotions.
The Loyalty Scheme of many other Online Travel Agents usually has a lot of red tapes and are pretty rigid,
so this is totally awesome since I don’t need to wait till I accumulate enough member points etc. :p

Oh! But you can only see the Members-Only Offers after you sign in, so do remember to log in accordingly.

HotelClub covers accommodation choices in 7400 cities across 141 countries!
And I’m pretty sure these places in my Bucket List are all covered.
For a start, the upcoming deals by HotelClub is Heh! When I first checked out the website,
I was pretty impressed, and I was more amazed when I realized that there are more offers available
after I signed up for an account.
They actually keep the good stuff for their members! Hahahaha. It’s an open secret now, I guess! :p
CHECK IT OUT!

They are also running a Facebook Contest where you can share travel tips,
and the most impressive one will receive free hotel stay across TEN DIFFERENT HOTELS
in Hanoi, Phuket, Penang (I want to go Penang!) and KL, fully sponsored by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Group!
Some of my favourites from them includes are W Retreat and Spa Bali – Seminyak just to name a few
*screams*
I WANT THAT!

  1. Hey Peggy,

Great tips! I’m quite an avid traveller myself. Your dental floss as a clothes line really cracked me up 🙂 I pack lightly and make the best of what I have most of the time.
