Let’s Fika!

Looks like getting a new camera IS a right choice. I’ve been transformed into a brand new camwhore who would whip out my camera almost every hour. Hahahaha! I bought the Samsung MV9000 from Gmarket and it’s only at $320! (The price I got from Sim Lim Square was $417, so that’s really quite a steal!) It comes with a flip up screen and has inbuilt wifi so I can transfer pictures from the camera to my phone ANYWHERE, even when I’m at a place with no wifi connection! OK, enough of my boring gadget talk. PEEKTURES! I’m also loving my new gelish manicure from Juup! It has got to be my favourite nail salon of all times. Apart from the hot tea and cookies and chocolates they give me once I settled down, I get to watch movies as I’m getting my nails done! How awesome is that! I did the gelish in a glittery dark grey this time round because my previous colour done by the was of a lighter shade. Time for …

My Grandparents

I visited my uncle’s place last weekend and came across a photo album with all the old photos. The first time I laid eyes on these photos, I froze. Because I see my Grandma came back to life again. She was young. And very beautiful. Amongst all the discussions with my uncles and aunties about how my Grandma was only 19 when this photo was taken, and about how much my Mom really looks like my Grandma, a frightful thought dawned upon me – my Grandma was once like me, young and free, thinking she would be young forever. I don’t know whether I will bore you to tears with this post. For me, I enjoyed listening to stories about the older generations. My uncles and aunts told me they used to wake up in the morning with bleeding toes because they were bitten by mice They also told me about how my Mom was rebellious enough to steal her passport and go Japan for half a year with her then-boyfriend. One that left the …

Kombi Rocks

I am thrilled about this place the moment I heard about it. And I have to thank Cheryl for such a great recommendation! For those of you who doesn’t know yet, Kombi is actually the name of this type of vehicle shown in the banner above. One of the prettiest designs from Volkswagen, if you ask me! Kombi Rocks is not just any other cute cafe! Other than the “Diner” branch, they also have the “Rides” branch where they have cute vintage vehicles for hire. Whether you’re planning for a photoshoot, wedding or just for a joyride, you can get them! Imagine a wedding with such a cute ride, too cute. That’s us on our way to Kombi Rocks! It’s situated on Yio Chu Kang Road, nearer to the Serangoon side. That’s really close to A’s place and we are thrilled to have discovered another cute cafe to hang out at near home. 🙂 [Yes we bought those old school snacks to eat. WE LOVE!] It is hard to miss this place. There would always …

Bangkok III

I am back with another entry about my Bangkok trip! This is the third and last post about this recent trip though, and it feels as if I am on the trip and it is ending all over again. Boo. I miss the Land of Smiles already! For this last entry, I want to share one of my favourite night markets in Bangkok! But before that, here are some pictures taken during our anniversary dinner there. It’s our first year together and we decided to just spend it like any other day. We had dinner at the 9th Cafe in Siam Paragon. It’s just a simple looking cafe but the food was pretty good! (The food is nice everywhere in Bangkok lah!) This is my lady’s ‘happy smile’. The food! A likes her western food and my heart has long been stolen by Thai cuisine. After dinner, we went down to our favourite dessert haunt Vanilla Brassiere and bought a tiny Tiramisu cake before we head back to the hotel. A says this cake is …

Bangkok II

I’m back with more details about my Bangkok trip and more hangouts in the Land of Smiles to recommend! A and I checked in to our second hotel for this trip! I first read about MADUZI Hotel on the internet, and I was blown away by the decor in this hotel, especially their unique bath tubs in all of their rooms! This hotel also views the privacy of their hotel guests importantly. There is no typical check-in counter in this hotel, all paper work are done in your rooms. And the moment you enter the hotel, it just feels like home! There is no crowd around any counters, you don’t see a lot of guests walking around too because there is only slightly more than 40 rooms in there. The hotel do not take guest reservations over the counter, so only prior reservations are accepted. The gates to the hotel are almost always closed too, so you don’t get random strangers streaming in and out. I like it! We were allocated a room on the …

Old School Delights

I have heard a lot about Old School Delights! Every time we drive by Upper Thomson Road, A would say “Hey wanna go Old School Delights?” Hahaha! And yes, we finally made our way there earlier this week. I have to say that this place put a smile on my face as soon as I stepped into the cafe. There are lots of stuff that reminds me of my childhood days! Here are some pictures to give you a virtual tour of the place if you haven’t been there before! I LOVE that huge blackboards! I want to have a HUGE blackboard in my future home too! 😀 There are toys and other stuff on sale. Also a lot of old books that you can read or browse through when you’re having a meal. This is a perfect place to have lunch alone because there are so many things around to keep you occupied. They serve cakes, and other Asian food like Mee Siam, Macaroni Soup with Shredded Chicken, etc. I like how we can …

Papa Palheta

I think I am addicted to checking out new cafes and pretty chill-out places. So here is another one to add to your ‘MUST GO’ cafes! And indeed, the ‘most important drink of your day’ is probably your cuppa coffee. A’s friend brought us to this cute little cafe couple days back and we were blown away! Tucked in a little corner along Bukit Timah Road, it’s like a breath of fresh air the moment you lay eyes on this place. It is quite hidden so it’s not visible from the main roads, but hey, that also means that it’s quieter and more peaceful in here! This place has a strange aura that makes it really welcoming. The people round here are all really friendly and smiley! According to A, a seasoned coffee drinker, the coffee served here are really good. From what I gathered, the coffee beans used at Papa Palheta are all roasted right there in the cafe! There is a special room where all the roasting takes place. The roasting takes place …

Chiang Mai II

Before I begin, let me wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year! Hope the Dragon Year would be a HUAT HUAT year for everyone and may everyone be happy, sexy, glam and healthy! ♥ This Chinese New Year has been a rather quiet one for everyone in my family. We didn’t do any visiting this year because of Grandma’s recent demise, but we still had fun at our family chalet! 🙂 I visited A’s place though, and it was a lot of fun meeting her family. I hope A had fun at my family chalet and family dinner too. Heh! I also received some pretty clothes to wear for the new year! Special thanks to SugarThreads for the super adorable striped dress and LustMonday for the comfy and stylish looking chiffon shirt dress! Many many love! I shall continue with my travel to Chiang Mai! This is probably my favourite part of the entire Chiang Mai trip – visiting the Karen Tribe in Mae Hong Son and Elephant rides. But before I start on those, …
