Crème Brûlée

A and me made our very own Crème Brûlée and we were thrilled about sharing it!
It was her Mommy’s recipe and it was absolutely fabulous.
Her Mom bakes really well and I’m one lucky girl to be able to eat those yummy pastries and cakes
every now and then at her place! :p

IMG_2360

I realised that recipe aside, skills and techniques are really important too.
Our Crème Brûlée didn’t turn out to be as pretty as the one her Mom made. Boohoo!
BUT STILL! We are proud of it. Hahaha.

The ingredients required are
380gm of UHT milk
380gm of Millac cream
6 normal sized egg yolks
100 to 130gm of sugar (depends on how sweet you want it)

IMG_2345

Measure out the milk and cream and mix them together in a pot.

IMG_2350

IMG_2351

IMG_2352

Separate the egg yolks from the white and put them in a mixing bowl.
The eggs we had were pretty small so we added 8 in total. Heh!

IMG_2347

IMG_2346

IMG_2349

Measure out your desired amount of sugar.
Pour the sugar into the egg yolks and mix well.

IMG_2354

IMG_2355

Do not whisk it too much until there is too much bubbles.

IMG_2356

IMG_2357

IMG_2358

IMG_2359

Heat the milk/cream mix until it’s almost boiling.
Pour the mixed yolk/sugar mixture in and stir quickly.

IMG_2362

When it’s all mixed well, pour it through a sieve.

IMG_2363

IMG_2364

Pour into serving cups.

IMG_2361

IMG_2365

Preheat oven to 180 degrees & steam bake the cups for about 35-40mins.

IMG_2366

IMG_2367

Remove the cups when they are done.
The Crème Brûlée should have a “pudding” texture, not too watery.
Sprinkle some sugar on the surface of the Crème Brûlée and melt the sugar with a blow torch,
or put it back into the oven with high heat for a couple minutes until the surface is brown and crispy looking.

Refrigerate the dessert after it has cooled down a little.

TADAH! Crème Brûlée is done!

IMG_2368

I love Crème Brûlée and it’s really amazing that we can make our very own Crème Brûlée in our kitchen now!
If you are also a big fan, do try it out and fix up a tray of yummy Crème Brûlée for you and your loved ones too.

I have been out and about eating and drinking. Hahaha!

I also want to share this rather cool website called Food Panda I tried the other day.
It has a list of restaurants under it and you can actually order food from the website,
and the food will be delivered to you!
It rocks for me because there are days when I’m lazy and I don’t wanna eat MacDonalds or other fast food.
I tried it and ordered Indian Food for Mom, my brother, A and myself!
Yummy food and it’s super shiok to have lunch delivered right to my house. Heh!
Pardon my messy photos. Hahaha!

Not-So-Hollywood

I am a self-proclaimed movie buff.
If you haven’t checked out my 2 other blog entries about my favourite movies and based on true story movies,
you are in luck because that would mean you will have 3 new blog entries to read today!

I just watched Drive starring Ryan Gosling yesterday night.
It took me a while to understand why it was voted the best movie from 2011.
But after discussing with A, we both agreed that the movie was tastefully done,
and the development of the plot was smooth and comfortable.
Seeing Ryan Gosling’s buff physique packed under his thin white tee was cool too. Haha!

My hands are itching again to share another ten movies that I think everyone should watch at least once in their lives.
In no particular order of credit, here are the ten awesome movies that I think you might love!

ONE

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 01.54.36

Memento is one movie that really blew me off my chair.
Made in 2000, this movie is actually shown backwards.
Although this show is all about action, murder and have all other essence that you expect to see in a typical thriller,
this film is nowhere near your typical thriller flick.

The story is about a man with short-term memory resulting from an injury.
He sets out to find the murderer who killed his wife with notes, tattoos and photographs.
Stick close to your screen when you’re watching this show,
I’m sure you don’t wanna miss the small details here and there that makes this film such a fabulous one!

TWO

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 01.56.17

Little Miss Sunshine is basically about a not-so-typical American family’s road trip.
This 2006 black-comedy film made such an impression especially the part
when the family placed their dead grandpa in the trunk of their vehicle.
If you like seeing how a fractured family awkwardly become closer on a trip to send
the young girl in the family to a beauty pageant across the country, this is the one for you.

Charming, clever and unassuming, this film is one that you would definitely want to watch more than once!

THREE

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 01.56.34

Cashback is a film about a young man who develops a serious insomnia problem after a breakup.
And since he is not getting any sleep at all, he decided to take up a job at the supermarket to kill time and make some money.
During his late night shifts, his imagination runs wild and he started sketching wonderful portraits of the people he met.

I like how the story is told and the whole crazy idea.
(He freezes the people in the supermarket and undresses them and draw them)
If you like something that’s different from the usual Hollywood crap, this is the one for you.
I love the cinematography and it’s amazing how one can make such an awesome movie with a low budget.

FOUR

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 01.58.25

OK Room in Rome IS a gay film, just in case you’re wondering after you’ve seen the picture below already.
But this is the MOST tastefully done and most real gay film I have ever seen.
The entire film is done within a hotel room in Rome.
The show is made up of 30% sex scenes, 70% dialogues.
The two leads were naked 98% of the time.
Soundtrack of the film is awesome and the cinematography is so so good!

You have to watch this film if you believe in love at first sight.
Erm the trailer is horribly done though.

FIVE

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 02.01.50

Perfume was recommended to me by A. The plot of this movie was really strange but so damn engaging.
I love how the film was shot and though it was somewhat creepy at some scenes,
it is still very interesting, intriguing and captivating.

It is about a person who is overly sensitive to scents and he started going around collecting human scents.
As to how he does it, you have to watch the film to know.
The content of the film may be a little disturbing but I think the show is beautifully shot.

SIX

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 02.03.52

Love Me If You Dare is a very unique love story.
The whole relationship started from a series of dares and it was also this game that
made the two persons unsure if it is just a game, or true love.
As usual, this film has splendid cinematography and I love how the plot slowly develops in the show.

Fabulous show. And Marion Cotillard looks amazing in there!
The movie is WAY better than the trailer.

SEVEN

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 02.05.05

City of Gods is another movie with awesome cinematography.
I am such a sucker for films that are nicely shot. Heh!
Two boys grew up together, one became a photojournalist for the local papers, another became a mafia.
I watched this movie without any expectations at the beginning and it really blew me off!
Very well done.

EIGHT

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 02.06.11

Trainspotting is another must-watch starring Ewan McGregor.
He doesn’t look like him at all in this movie!
Sidetrack a bit, I am really amazed by how these artistes can lose and gain weight just LIKE THAT!
Respect.

This movie is basically about how the lives of a group of teenagers are affected by their drug usage.
This show is rated R for strong language, nudity, sex and some violence.
Not the kind of movie you wanna watch before you sleep or when you’re eating.
Trainspotting is best for boring afternoons when you are wide awake and feeling dangerous.
Hahahaha.

NINE

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 02.07.28

Shortbus is another recommendation from A.
This one is made up of several short stories of different people wound together.
The woman who couldn’t get an orgasm, the man who was a former child star, man in drag, and many more.
The whole plot pretty much revolves around the woman who couldn’t come and
her journey to solve her problem led her to meet others.

To be honest, this movie is a little bit weird.
I was a little bit scared when A started introducing me movies like this and Perfume.
We don’t really know each other very well back then. Haha.
But well, this is an interesting watch and do catch it if you are in the mood for something strange.

TEN

Screen shot 2012-03-30 at PM 02.08.53

Imagine Me and You is the first lesbian-themed film I watched.
Lena Headey is absolutely gorgeous! Absolutely absolutely gorgeous!
This movie is very well done, and it really is a love story, not gay love story.
Tastefully done and not too in-your-face, this is not a film that will make you feel uncomfortable with intimate scenes.
I am pretty sure you will like this one.

I LOVE MOVIES!

The buffet I’m talking about is at Spize at Park Royal Hotel at Kitchener Road.
It’s really cheap, and you can get another 20% with NTUC card or 15% if you pay with UOB cards.
The bill came up to about $30 per pax that day.
Super value for money considering the massive amount of fresh sashimi we ate!

Oh! I LOVE how the place is always so empty too. Hahaha.

A and I went back to Jalan Riang where Wimbly Lu was.
But this time round, we checked out The Fat Cat which is just round the corner!
They serve Western, Thai and Indian cuisine over here and we tried the Thai and Indian today.
They were all pretty awesome!

IMG_2080

IMG_2083

The place is pretty much like a kopitiam with pretty decor and servers.
There are three “kopitiam stalls” in there and each serve different food!
You can find beer and other alcoholic drinks in here too.

YES I permed my hair again!
I am loving this new perm.
It was more than a year ago when I last had a perm.
Back then, my friends would call me Cupid because of the damn hair.
HAHAHA!
Some said I look like some random Korean boy band boys.
HECK IT. I think I love it!
I cut off those curls about few months after I permed,
but this time round, I am determined to keep the curls for at least another 2 to 3 haircuts!

IMG_1938

As if like an addiction, A and I checked out another cafe.
This time round, it was at Yong Siak Street and I knew of this place through a couple forums and through Ladyironchef!
It is quite a small place and I think food is rather overpriced.
Nevertheless, quite a nice place and I think my Black Truffles Mushroom sandwich was awesome.
Coffee was good too.

I never knew Yong Siak Street is such a happening place.
SO many cute stuff here, I really love the place!

Across the street from Forty Hands, you can see other nice cafes, restaurants and shops
like Open Door Policy, Books Actually, Social Haus, just to name a few.

IMG_1962

IMG_1963

But what caught my attention was the famous Books Actually.
I’ve heard the name of this bookstore so many times but have yet to checked it out.
I have to say, I SERIOUSLY DIG THIS PLACE!
It is SO adorable and everything from the decor to the stuff they have in there to their choice of music was awesome!
I went trigger-happy the moment I stepped in there.
Here is a little virtual tour!

That place is a little treasure trove!

If you have been following me for the last few entries, you probably know A has 3 cats.
Just couple days ago, the 3 cats had a pretty little visitor!
A’s neighbor found a stray cat and they took the cat in.
But I think the cat probably ran out of the house and sneaked into A’s house few days ago.
After a little panic attack, they returned the cat to their neighbor and
learnt that they are actually going to put the lost cat up for adoption soon.

It is a pretty little Persian cat and she is SO SO SO tame.
I’ve never seen a cat that didn’t even flinch when we bathed her.
And when we pushed it further by whipping out the hairdryer to dry her, she was ok with it too!

She is such a lovely pet. 😦
If you should know anyone who has recently lost a Persian cat, please let me know!

That aside, we brought the little lady up to A’s room to meet the cats and also gave her a nice warm bath.
She is such a beauty.

I also want to take the chance to say a big THANK YOU to Two Happy Flowers!

Thanks for dropping by today.
I will be back with more interesting cafes to share with you guys!

Papa Palheta

I think I am addicted to checking out new cafes and pretty chill-out places.
So here is another one to add to your ‘MUST GO’ cafes!

IMG_1718

IMG_1808

IMG_1719

And indeed, the ‘most important drink of your day’ is probably your cuppa coffee.

A’s friend brought us to this cute little cafe couple days back and we were blown away!
Tucked in a little corner along Bukit Timah Road, it’s like a breath of fresh air the moment you lay eyes on this place.
It is quite hidden so it’s not visible from the main roads, but hey, that also means that it’s quieter and more peaceful in here!

IMG_1722

This place has a strange aura that makes it really welcoming.
The people round here are all really friendly and smiley!
According to A, a seasoned coffee drinker, the coffee served here are really good.
From what I gathered, the coffee beans used at Papa Palheta are all roasted right there in the cafe!

There is a special room where all the roasting takes place.
The roasting takes place every Monday, so the cafe will be closed for that day of the week.
But for the rest of the week, they will be serving freshly brewed coffee from 9am to 6pm on weekdays & 9am to 7.30pm on weekends.
Here’s a picture of the roasting room.

IMG_1730

IMG_1736

Ok, that is still not the most unique part of this place.
Get this.
There is actually no proper menu for the coffee.
And there isn’t a fixed price for the coffee.
So in a way, the coffee is free!
All you need to do is just to tip the barista for the lovely coffee he/she made you.
Isn’t it awesome?

The place is pretty spacious but the number of tables are kind of limited.
Only about 2 to 3 tables at their outdoor area, and another 2 to 3 more indoors.
There are a couple bar seats though.
There seems to be another level above the main brewing area, but I’m not sure if it’s opened for public.
Oh! And yes, you can take away these ‘FREE’ coffees.

Here is a tour around the place, it’s really pretty and cute stuff to look at all around!

A and I also watched Death Cab For Cutie’s concert at Fort Canning Park.

Screen shot 2012-03-15 at AM 12.18.56

They were here to promote their latest album ‘Codes and Keys’ but I’m glad they also did many of their old songs.
To be honest, I am not a huge fan of theirs but for that 6 Death Cab songs I know, I have to agree that they’re pretty awesome.
Never knew how on earth they looked like until the day of the concert too.
No, actually, I still didn’t know how they look like during the concert
because they were all 10cm tall from where I was standing.
But that said, I REALLY ENJOYED THE CONCERT!
I am glad I wasn’t standing too near the stage too because it was so packed!
I would have fainted if I was standing in the first 10 rows of people.
Hahahaha.
I am really unfit like that!

Warning.
The following couple photos will probably all look the same to you.

IMG_1675

IMG_1674

IMG_1673

I was quite disappointed to see the picture of the lead singer after Googling.
I thought he looked quite cute from 50m away. *urps*

They started the concert with “A Lack of Color” and ended it with “Transatlanticism”.
I’m really glad they did the latter because A was dying and itching to hear that song.
She was THRILLED when they wrapped up the concert with that song. Hahaha!

Ok, here is another bad quality taken-with-phone photo for you.

IMG_1663

Death Cab weeeee!

IMG_1690

This couple days has been colourful for me!
Other than my crazy looking multi-coloured nails, I also receive a pretty Prada card case from My Secret Attic.
If you love to pamper yourself with pretty buys too, do check them out!

I really love how the parcel was packaged and it comes with everything including the box and a paper bag.
Nice touch!
Thanks to Jacqueline from The Secret Attic for throwing in the sheet masks for Aileen and I too.

To end off this post, I would like to boast about how awesome A is at the app that has taken Singapore by storm.
I guess it’s not hard to guess what this is if someone drew that for you in ‘Draw Something’? :p

IMG_1619

Isn’t she awesome? Heh!
I hope she wasn’t pissed when I teased her saying that it looks like Ho Chi Minh.
HAHAHAHA.

Screen shot 2012-03-15 at AM 12.30.28

Uncanny resemblance?
Heh! Goodnight folks!

The Coastal Settlement

I don’t know about you, but I am one of those few Singaporeans who are quite not-cool when it comes
to being informed about the new hip cafes or restaurants in town.
Most of the time, I’m normally the one being brought around to check out new places.
And I wish to change that! Hahaha.

I visited two new places, one was recommended by an Instagram follower and the other was recommended by a friend.
Absolutely loved this two new places because I’m such a big sucker for cute decor.
Hope you will like them too!

When I first heard that it is ALL the way in the East at Loyang area, I was quite turned off.
But I guess being far away from the bustling city makes this place more attractive!
I liked the place the moment I saw it.
Quiet, quaint and the decor is pretty but not over the top.

I like how all the chairs and tables are all different.
If I had a house in future, I would wanna do the exact same thing! Heh.
Apart from the obvious gorgeous decor of the place, there are also many other pretty little things to look at.
Like these:

IMG_1769

IMG_1770

IMG_1772

There are many interesting things to look at and it almost didn’t feel like a cafe at all.
If you have a thing for old stuff, you would definitely love this place.
There are also many small little things that are for sale over here,
old school CASIO watches, polaroid films, accessories, etc.

IMG_1773

IMG_1781

IMG_1782

IMG_1783

The place is HUGE and spacious.
The servers are all very friendly and smiley, really nice.
Toilets are clean. (Ok that’s a very auntie statement but we all have to agree that it’s very important)

IMG_1778

The food shouldn’t be too bad too.
I only had beer and chicken wings there (the wings were good!)
but I heard that this place is under the same management as CMPB in Dempsey.
So I guess the food can’t be that bad.

We picked a seat outside and we loved it.
Quiet and peaceful. Heh!
Might have some mosquito problem though, but do feel free to ask for mosquito coils from the staff.
Hahaha.

This other place I went to was introduced by Instagram follower @dropletslove.
BIG THANKS for the recommendation!
The place is just a 5 to 10 mins walk away from A’s house and we were thrilled to discover another nearby chillout place.

I did a little research about Wimbly Lu before I checked it out.
Realized that the food there was meh.
It is more of a desserts, chocolate bar kinda place so it’ll be great if you pop by for after-meal sweets.

The place is really cute though.

I can imagine how my mother would react if she were to come here.
“Wah! Your Ah Mah used to have this dressing table too!”
or
“Aiyo! This table is the very old kind leh!”

As you walk deeper into the cafe, you will see a greenhouse-like decor!
The ceiling is made of glass but the place is still very cooling.
I love the fake grass interior too. Cute!

I got a new tattoo, folks!
This time round, it was a new one on the wrist and I’m loving how it looks!
Malvin from Primitive Arts at Far East Plaza did it for me.
I think there is still some touching up that needs to be done.
Shall wait for 3 weeks before I head back to fix it.

These were some of the fonts I considered before getting the tattoo.
Wanted to pick the 4th font, but the artist said that the tattoo needs to be much bigger to be able to show all the details.
So, nope. Bleah.

IMG_1455

IMG_1454

So I picked the 3rd font instead.
This motto (or rather, phrase) came with the necklace A and I bought together.
I love how the phrase sounded and meant.

The tattoo artist tattooed the “q” as a “g”. Faints.
Need to go back after 3 weeks to alter that part. Bleah!
Other than that, I really love the new ink

On a sidenote, I think my hair is finally gradually growing longer!
I know it’s still super short as of now.
Do you know that I haven’t had a haircut for 5 months already? Hahahaha.
I think the previous haircut was really a little TOO short. 😡
Shall not have such short hair again in the near future because I think I look more normal in dresses with more hair.
Heh!

This is a dress I received from Alvila!
The material is really comfortable to be in and it comes with a pretty belt too.
Pressies that comes in a parcel always make my day!

Sinsin, Lianie, A and I went back to Wild Oats for drinks again yesterday.
I really love this place more and more.
But I guess there is still room for improvement for the service quality.
Hmm.

A bought me a lot of new film for my polaroid camera!
Super cheap of about 80cents per piece!
We started taking pictures of the three kitties because I realized I don’t have any polaroids of them yet.
Much love!

five fabulous years

Time flies.
It has been almost 2 years since I’ve joined Nuffnang and it has been really nice so far.
I’ve met many other people who have such “atypical” jobs like me, and many other awesome young people too!
I attended Nuffnang’s 5th Birthday Bash at Swissotel yesterday and I was blown away by the 60 bloggers there.
So many bloggers leh!
Hahaha.

it’s a super odd feeling. Heh!

Thank you Nuffnang, the performers and other great bloggers for the wonderful company and entertainment!LOTS OF LOVE!

And just to side track a little bit, I think I’ve finally decided on the new tattoo design I’m gonna get.
I’ve been sitting on the idea for the really long time but somehow cannot decide on what I want to ink.
There were quite a few possible designs that I’m interested in but I just knew that they weren’t the one.

Should be getting inked tomorrow! I’ll be back with more pictures! :p
(Don’t worry it’s just a small one)

With that, take care and see you again soon with more updates friends!

Peace xx

I change, but in dying.

Screen shot 2012-02-29 at AM 01.59.55

LINES ON A SEAL
“Je ne change, qu’en mourant.”

The Poetical Writings of the Right Rev. George Washington Doane, D.D., LL.D.

In bower and garden, rich and rare,
There’s many a cherished flower,
Whose beauty fades, whose fragrance flits,
Within the flitting hour.
Not so the simple forest leaf,
Unprized, unnoted lying,
The same, thro’ all its little life,
It changes, but in dying.

Be such, and only such, my friend,
Once mine, and mine for ever:
And here’s a hand, to clasp in thine,
That shall desert thee, never.
And thou, be such, my gentle love,
Time, chance, the world, defying;
And take, ’tis all I have, a heart,
That changes, but in dying.

Let’s Shine!

I think I have just been introduced to the best beauty and health supplement drink!

I believe many of you are familiar with BRAND’S® Chicken Essence and InnerShine® Berry Essence,
but have you tried their latest InnerShine® Berry Essence with Grape Seed Extract yet?

Screen shot 2012-02-25 at PM 01.02.54

In today’s fast paced society, it’s common that most of us would usually have our makeup on for the entire day.
It is also easy to be carried away by the many distractions in our lives that
we neglect the importance of caring for our skin and health.
I believe when I said “caring for our skin”,
the first thing that comes to mind would be the bottles after bottles of skincare products.
Moisturizers, serums, toners, primers, the list goes on.

But do you know that the best way of encouraging good skin health starts from within?

I am loving this new product from BRAND’S® called InnerShine® Berry Essence with Grape Seed Extract
because it is so incredibly yummy!
Other than its tastiness, it is also packed with Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin Complexes (OPCs)
which is an active ingredient that enhances skin elasticity.
And what is so special about this drink is also because it is packed with
powerful anti-oxidants and goodness from 5 different types of berries!
They are blueberry, blackcurrant, chokeberry, acaiberry and cranberry.

Being 26 this year, I am utterly disappointed when I heard that our body will start to lose collagen from 25 years old onwards. And if you’re still not familiar with collagen, it is actually a protein that
basically makes your skin feel “bouncy” every time you touch it.
The rate of declination of the collagen is 1.5% per annum!
I can’t believe it! 😦

I have tried different ways of increasing my collagen intake –
tried collagen masks, collagen pills and even add collagen powder into my usual beverages.
But I guess none of the above is as convenient and tasty as this new baby from BRAND’S® InnerShine®!

Screen shot 2012-02-25 at PM 01.03.04

This drink is exceptionally yummy when it’s chilled and all you need to drink for all the OPCs required
is just one bottle a day!
I think it’s super value for money compared to supplement pills that are available in the market.

Oh! I realized I haven’t told you much about this amazing OPC thing!
It has anti-oxidant properties that help maintain skin elasticity and promote better blood circulation.
It has the ability to neutralize free radicals, much higher than that of Vitamins C & E!
And thus, with less free radicals, our skin’s collagen depletion will be slowed down tremendously!
Of course, OPC also works hand-in-hand with the anti-oxidants in the 5 berries!

I think this might just be the perfect solution for busy young people like us to help
reduce the damaging effects of UV radiation, pollution and other environmental factors that
cause skin cells to age and deteriorate prematurely.

Screen shot 2012-02-25 at PM 01.03.18

I really love the taste of the drink that I wish the bottle was bigger.
I got myself 9 bottles in total, courtesy of BRAND’S®!
And after I’ve finished them (after sharing with A), I headed out to buy somemore!
Heh heh! They are available at $24.90 for a pack of 6!

For more updates, promotions, giveaways and fun activities, don’t forget to check them out at their Facebook Page.
Beauty starts from within, so let’s shine together! 😀

Tickets from $65, are available at the door. I can’t wait for the exciting date with A!
