My Ukulele

Sorry that I’ve been gone for the last few days!
I hope you guys liked the previous entry about my skincare regime.
For today, I’m super excited because I am going to introduce a very new soulmate of mine.
It’s a SHE and she has an hourglass figure.
She has a nice brown complexion and has a long slender neck.
She originates from Hawaii and her name is Wah Pen Pen!

HAHAHAHA.
I know I know.
You’re probably scratching your head now because you don’t know what on earth I’m rattling on and on about.
To spare you the misery, here is story about how I met my soulmate!

Screen shot 2012-02-23 at PM 01.12.02

This is where I got my soulmate from.
OK LAH! Wah Pen Pen is a Ukulele.
I have always been intrigued about the sounds of an Ukulele after watching videos by Jake Shimabukuro on Youtube.
And of course, the Ukulele is incredibly cute too!
I name my new toy “Wah Pen Pen” because it supposedly sounds Hawaiian to me.
HAHAHAHA. There’s a little private joke between A and I too actually.
Wah Pen Pen is our way of saying “What’s happening?”
LOL.

There must be many other people out there who are interested in picking up Ukulele.
So here are some information about where I got mine from:

Ukulele Movement
66 Kampong Bugis Level 5 Kallang Rivergreen Building Singapore 338987
Tuesday – Saturday: 12pm – 9pm
Sunday: 12pm – 6pm
Closed on Mondays and public holidays

You can also email them at ask@ukulelemovement.com or check out their website.

Ok, before this starts sounding like an ad, allow me to continue.
There are actually two outlets for Ukulele Movement.
This one I went to, which is in Kampong Bugis, is quite out of the way,
so it’s best if you can drive there.
Here is a picture to let you have a better idea of it’s out-of-the-way-ness.

Other than that one building, there are no surrounding buildings.
But this place is really quite interesting because we saw pretty cafes there as well.
Will definitely check out this place again in future!

The lift door opened right into the shop and it gave me a small shock, to be honest. Hahaha!
The store is really pretty and the staff very very friendly and helpful.

I bought a Soprano Ukulele at about $179.
It’s one of the many entry level Ukuleles they have there.
The prices range from $60+ to $600+.
The soprano Ukulele I bought is the one with the smallest body, and like its name suggests,
it has the highest range.
Do talk to the staff there if you’re gonna get a Uke there too!

It is much easier to pick up the Ukulele compared to a guitar, I think.
The chords are much easier and it’s generally a smaller instrument.
A and I cannot keep our hands off it after we brought it home!

A drew that for me when I was playing “Rainbow Connection”. :p

And at my place, Wah Pen Pen meets the guitar.
The difference in size is quite amusing. Heh!

I also met up with the girlfriends at Wild Oaks located at Punggol Park.
It’s a really nice place & I loved it.
It was the company that made it really nice too! I shall start with a random picture of eggs I took that night. Hahaha.

Sinsin also shared her wedding photoshoot peektures with us!
This is one of my favourites from the lot. I can’t wait to check out the rest!
Sorry for the bad resolution of the photos because they were all taken in the dark on my phone. 😡

IMG_1227

And of course, some pictures of A’s lovely kitties.
I saw Bert and Bacchus snuggling and quickly pulled out my phone to take pictures of them!
SO CUTE!

We then met up again on Sunday for lunch at Bugis Junction.
Desserts were at M.O.F.

I also dropped by Flea&Easy @ Zouk with A after lunch!
Bought 2 tops and many stickers from the stores there.
I love fleas! This is one of the tops I bought from the flea.
Being my kiasu self, I wore it out the very next day. Heh!

Ukulele entry12

I accompanied A for one of her photoshoots and while I waited for her for a while in her car,
I did a video with my dear girl Wah Pen Pen! :p
The two songs I sang here are Tears for Affairs by Camera Obscura & Zombie by The Cranberries.
I only bought the Ukulele for a couple days so my playing is really not so good yet.
Please bear with me for the many times when I can’t press the chords properly or
when the strumming pattern keep changing. Hahaha!

This is one of the few times I actually did this video blogging thing.
I’m always a bit too self conscious when I’m recording myself. 😡
I was so nervous I knocked my specs with the Ukulele.
Stupid A kept laughing at me whenever she sees that part of the video.
Dammit.

PLEASE DON’T LAUGH AT ME TOO!

IMG_1373

Here are the lyrics of Tears for Affairs.
I didn’t include the lyrics for Zombie because the whole world knows it already. :p

Tears for Affairs
Shedding tears for affairs
I’m a funny little thing
I can tell you this for nothing
Affairs don’t win

Can you handle one more dirty secret one more dirty night
Is it true what they say
Will it make us go blind

You had to drive
Look me in the eye
Whisper don’t cry

I’ll take an interest in Illustration
It should be a laugh
Your words are with me still
They whisper in the grass

Shedding tears for affairs
I’m a stupid little thing
I can tell you this for nothing
You won’t win

You had to drive
(I didn’t want to)
Look me in the eye
(I found it hard to)
Whisper don’t cry
(I had to whisper Goodbye)
So I cried

The Barbarella “Thanks Everybody Thanks” was A’s idea, just in case you’re wondering.

Let me know if you like it and want more eardrum-torturing covers from me!
Hahahaha!
Hope you enjoyed today’s entry, have a good Friday tomorrow guys!

Skincare & I

I received a couple requests in comments and through the chat box for me to do up an entry about my skincare regime.
So here it is, me and many horrible [never seen before] pictures of me with horrible skin.
I think I have had a long battle with pimples, pimple scars and dull looking skin.
With that, I would like to say that I am really not someone born with fabulous skin.
At many times, it was makeup or just good photography that helped concealed my flaws.

Today, I’m gonna show you some scary photos of myself.
Hopefully, you would still read my website after you’re done with this entry! Hahaha.

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 07.51.58
AI18074

Alright, to be fair, I think I was born with average skin.
Occasional pimples, dull areas around the nose & mouth and dark eye rings (what else)? Bleah.
But to make things worse, the modelling and mad craze for new and many cosmetics and makeup products made my skin worse.
And I think my worst nemesis was liquid foundation.
No offence to anyone who swears by liquid foundation, because I used to be such a big fan of liquid foundation!
They can make my skin look FLAWLESS!
And because I was often out in the past, working and stuff, I had liquid foundation on every single day.
What made things worse was the clubbing and late nights.
And on nights when I’m too tired or drunk to clean my face properly, I sleep with my makeup on.

CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT GROSSNESS!

Hahaha.
Ok, before I start on anything, I wanna say how it’s a MAJOR NO-NO to sleep
with makeup on because it’s really dirty and bad for your skin.

This is how I look like around 2 to 3 years ago.

CIMG0603

The skin looks freaking awesome right?
Well, that’s because I had heavy makeup on and they pretty much covered all the scars and tiny zits I had.
If you were given the choice to zoom in to every picture on my website, heh, it would look something like that:

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 07.45.41

I always had problems with pimples.
Most of them are small ones, but they are freaking annoying because they constantly pop up at the same area.
It started with the forehead and chin, then they slowly invaded onto my cheeks.
And after they left, they would give me a parting gift each – scars!

Thick makeup – my nemesis.

IMG_0031

And beneath all that makeup, my skin pretty much looks like this all the time.
Very shocking indeed.

IMG_0300

I was devastated and tried all means and ways to improve my skin.
Tried facials and peels and more but they didn’t do much help.
But there was this one clinic I went to that did help my skin quite a bit.
I believe some of you might have heard of them before because they are pretty popular and famous for their skin doctor.
It’s just a humble looking clinic in Hougang called Punggol Clinic, near SRJC.
I went there twice and was given their facial wash to try.
It was a light blue liquid when I tried it that time, it was pretty strong so you need to dilute it before you use it.
For anyone who might be interested, they are located at Blk 23 Hougang Ave 3 #01-283.
You can call them at 6280 2585 to find out more or to make appointments.

Here is another picture without makeup when the skin is gradually getting better.

IMG_0428

But that aside, I think the best way to get good skin is to have clean skin and a good diet and sleeping habit.
Well, I don’t exactly have the best sleeping habits, to be honest.
But I guess drinking lots of water is helpful for keeping one’s system clean.

I quit using liquid foundation after all the bad skin episode, and only used 2-way cakes.
After I met A, I have also quit using 2-way cakes.
I think that was the best decision of my life!
My skin has never felt better.
I know how makeup can help to cover up our scars and all, but it will also tire your skin out sometimes.
So if you need to put on some makeup for work and stuff, remember to cleanse your skin thoroughly at night.
And also to let your skin have a rest every once in a while.

As for skincare, I alternate between various serums and essences.
I like the whitening serum from Chanel and I think it is quite useful for lightening scars.
When you shop for whitening serums, do check with the sales assistants because not all are useful for scars.
Some are more targeted at pigmentations – discolourations, freckles and stuff.
So it would always be helpful and assuring to ask more questions before you make your purchases.

I also love Laneige’s Waterbank hydrating essence.
Some other products I swear by is the exfoliating wash from Clinique, SKII Facial Treatment Essence & SKIN INC Sleeping Mask.

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 08.43.40

A has very sensitive skin so when she use slightly “stronger” products, she will get rashes on her skin.
But SKII Essence and the sleeping mask on SKIN INC worked magic on her, with no side effects.
So I reckon these products would be great for people with sensitive skin too.
For those who haven’t tried SKIN INC before, it’s highly recommended!
They have a shop front in ION Orchard.
The sleeping mask and peel is pretty awesome! 🙂

I hardly put on heavy makeup now.
And when I do, it would only be concealer for the undereye area, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and sometimes lipstick.

IMG_6666

SORRY! Look a bit like ah siao in that photo on top. Hahahaha!

Makeup goes on the skin much easier when you have better skin too!
Here is how I look like most of the time when I’m out.
Only concealer and loose powder can make you look refreshed and great too!

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 08.42.41

P1012531

I still have occasional pimples but they go down even before they surface fully now.
Hydration and keeping your face clean is the key to having clear skin!
And of course, weekly exfoliation would do good for your skin too.

This is how I look without makeup now.
I have gotten so used to having less makeup now that I will cringe when I see my older photos with heavy makeup. Heh.
With makeup, less is ALWAYS more.

Love, me

A and I visited this new place we have been wanting to visit for the longest time.
We are a big fan of pretty places and when we found out about this place called Antoinette from some TV show,
we were thrilled and cannot wait to go there right away!
This is not an advertisement but I really wanna share this place to anyone who wants a pretty place to have tea and nice sweets.

There are actually 3 different branches and you can find their address from their website.
The one we went to is at Penhas Road and it’s really nice to find such a place in a boring looking place like Penhas Road. :p

And we really regretted it because everything there looks super yummy!
They do serve pasta and other mains too, I must try it out in future. 😀
We ordered the Nougatine crepe, Vanilla Meringue, Maple Pudding, Royal Hot Chocolate and tea.

The prices of the stuff there are quite okay considering the good ambience.
Our meal there was about $50.
Oh and I also bought a box of cookies too! Very value for money. 🙂

I hope everyone had a good Valentines’ Day celebration yesterday!
Though Valentines’ Day can be rather overrated sometimes, I think it’s good to have such a day as a reminder for us to love!
Love your lover, love your parents, your friends, your pets!

A and I went back to The Night Safari for our Valentines’ Day celebration.
It was a really important place for us because this is the place where we first went for our first official date.
Hahahaha.
But before that, here are some pictures of me snapping pictures of the furry children and myself. :p

10 things you can do to make the world better

I am in a bit of a bitchy mode tonight so I thought I will write something slightly bitchy.
You hardly see me bitchy, really.
So this is hard to come by. Hahahaha!
Ok kidding. I am really nice.
I was browsing through some old entries and I realised it has been a while since I last wrote a “Top 10” entry.
So tonight, I’m gonna sit down and reflect on how we can all make the world a better place.
And since I’m feeling a little bitchy today, I will give everyone 5 angelic suggestions and 5 bitchy ones.
We’ll do them alternately so we don’t overdose on either one of them.

I am legend

I am obscenely excited about the new plugin I got for my website.
And if you’ve ever seen a little pink chat box at the corner of this page,
YES that’s the exciting little thing I’m talking about!
For those who haven’t seen it before, don’t worry because that thing only pops up when I’m online.

I have always wanted to talk to people who read my blog.
Afterall, this place is somewhat like a virtual home to me and I’d wanna know the visitors to my home better.
And what the hell! I actually met one of my best friends Rossie through my blog couple years ago!
And also because I know how most people are a little reluctant to leave comments,
I thought a chat box would be a great idea!
I tried it out and spoke to a few of the readers and I’m loving the chat box more and more. 🙂

Well, the conversations somewhat sparked off an urge to share a little more about my days in NTU.
Quite a number of the readers I spoke to are currently doing their final years in their respective schools.
Some are loving what they are doing, a lot are dreading coming out to the society to work,
and quite a handful told me they are worried about being retained in school because they didn’t perform up to standard.

It was really painful to hear such things coming from these girls because they reminded me of my school days.
So this post, is for all of you out there feeling lost, helpless and jaded about school.

Warning: This post might be a little boring for some of you.

I was not the best student around.
I was always late for lectures, always seated at the back in tutorial classes,
always scribbling away in class trying to copy tutorial solutions because I don’t do my work.
Despite dating a First Class Honours, Dean’s List, A-grade student back during my school days,
I refused to sit down and study.
If I don’t remember wrongly, I didn’t even bothered to try.

University life was colourful and fanciful for me.
It wasn’t the school activities that kept me busy though.
I was very engaged in outside-school stuff like modelling and what not.
Partying on Fridays, Saturdays and sometimes Wednesdays, I was always half asleep in class
(if I even went to school) on Thursdays.
School was all the way in Boon Lay and I stayed in Yishun so the distance to school put me off.
So most of the time, people won’t even see me appearing in campus.

Time flies when you least noticed.
And with a blink of an eye, I was at my 4th year in school, struggling with school work.
Back then, I wasn’t really close to the people in school.
There were friends in my course but we weren’t really study mates
because I was already failing and the classes we took were all different.
They were all taking Year 4 subjects and I was still taking Year 1, 2, 3 subjects.
And as a result, I failed the final exams and was made to stay back in school to finish up the rest of the modules.

It was such a painful experience seeing all my friends graduate without me.
If I could turn back time, I would definitely study harder than I did before.
The problem about me not having friends in school became more evident.
The travelling distance from home to school felt further and further.
And because of all the media exposure at that period of time,
I sometimes invite weird stares in school.
And because of that, I would always subconsciously feel that everyone is laughing at me because I failed.
“Maybe they are staring because they know I retained”
That thought ran through my mind all the time I walked into a canteen alone.

I eat lunches alone.
I camp out in the library alone during exam periods to do my last minute revisions.
I go to the printing rooms to print notes alone.
School was pretty much an ‘alone’ affair for me.

So even till now, whenever someone tell me about how vibrant university life is,
I can never understand.

All that continued for another 2 years and I spent a total of 6 years in NTU.
I think not a lot of people knew but I actually failed my internship once and was expelled of NTU halfway through my 5th year.
For my FYP (Final Year Report), I submitted a 2-pages essay for my interim report
because I did’t know an interim report is supposed to be a PROPER REPORT!
I think that’s an outcome of not having friends to tell you how an interim report is supposed to be like,
and not listening in class, and not bothering to find out more information from the school website.
Anyways, I clearly remember that my FYP professor in charge told me not to be the “first person he fail FYP for”.
That was how bad it was.

A friend of mine actually photoshopped my face onto Will Smith’s “I Am Legend” movie
because who on earth fails internship and give a 2 page essay for a FYP interim report man!
He photoshopped Maliboo’s face onto Will Smith’s dog in that poster somemore.
Nice touch.
HAHAHAHA!

Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.44.14

I think I have never ever shown my degree audit on my website before.
In fact, it is one of the few things in my life that I’m actually quite ashamed of.
But I really think it’s not because I’m stupid, but because of my laziness and reluctance to even try.
So here it is (the Year 1 subjects are shown at the bottom of the table so read table upwards):

Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.15.09
Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.15.26
Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.15.40
Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.16.07
Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.16.24

I think this is about the worst degree audit many of you have ever seen.

But my point here is not to compare who is smarter and who failed more modules.
My point here is, that I actually graduated after all that bullshit in the 6 years in university.
If I can do it with that kind amount of failing and retaking modules,
anyone out there who is worrying about your school work will definitely be able to do it (with less failing) too!
The thing is, if you are already worried about your school work,
that fear of failing will surely drive you to start doing some work.

For me, the wake up call came a little too late at my 5.5th year in school.
I was on academic probation back then and still didn’t do well.
So the following semester, I was declined admission into school.
IMAGINE. 5 and a half years in university and I had to leave without a degree.
I was devastated.

I was just looking at my Appeal Letter few days ago actually, just thought I’ll share it here today too.

“My name is Peggy Chang, and I have been studying in NTU for the past 5.5 years.
Unfortunately in the most recent examinations, I didn’t perform up to expectations and was declined re-admission to my course.

Throughout my stay in the school, I was often affected and distracted by many other factors
like outside-school commitments, work and family problems.
Thus, I have been neglecting schoolwork and had only been putting-in minimal effort in my studies.

Since my first year in university, I have been working part time to help support the home.
My father is a public bus driver and my mother is a sales assistant,
and therefore I wanted to do my part to help lighten their financial load by supporting myself and contributing to the family.
I was heavily involved in taking tuition assignments and also did professional modeling to earn a living.
Due to the nature of the work, there were many times when I had to miss certain days of school.

I am writing this appeal letter with a heavy heart now because I really wish to continue my course in NTU.
I know that I have had very bad grades for the previous semesters, often unmotivated to work hard.
Yet when I imagine myself leaving NTU after 5.5 years, without even a degree,
I feel remorseful and hate myself for not trying harder in the past.
I now realise that I really want to graduate with my degree very badly.
Only then will I be able to support my family, and give my parents a peace of mind.

This expulsion really serves as a wake-up call for me.”

That was an excerpt from my Appeal Letter.
Fortunately, I was given a second chance with that remorse-filled letter and my mentor AP Lim in school.
That last semester was a scary one for me because I know that if I still don’t make it,
I will end up with just a shitty A Levels qualification.
And will also be in debt for all those tuition fees I spent over the 6 years.

Fortunately, I made it and graduated.

Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.17.51

I think it was the best day of my school life.

So if you are feeling alone in school, or if you are feeling miserable because you cannot graduate with your mates,
please don’t give up.
Fact is, you are not alone at all.
Giving up is as good as allowing yourself to fail even more, and getting retained for a longer period of time.
Make things happen – get into the school’s peer tutor system, talk to people in lectures, make someone your study buddy!
Or if you’re like me, friend-less in school, make friends with the professors!

I remember I had a really caring and helpful professor in school back then.
There was one time when I sat in his office and chatted with him about my situation until I cried.
And he would tell me stories about other students who were in NTU for 7 years.
And how he didn’t want me to be one of them.
He made me update him every week about my school work in that fateful last semester.
And he even offered to give me extra tuition if I had problems with my work.

This was the email I wrote to him after I graduated.

Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.23.31
Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.23.47

And just few days ago, he emailed me again.
It sent all the memories in school coming back to me.

Screen shot 2012-02-12 at AM 02.24.01

Everyone in school and at home were very helpful and supportive.
Back in NTU, you need to bid for your subjects at the start of every semester.
It’s like a fastest fingers win kind of thing where students need to fight for slots at tutorials.
Towards the end of the 6 years, I no longer had to fight for those slots
because they would help give me the slots to try to fit all my modules into the very tight timetable.

The Violet I mentioned in the email works in the admin office in my school and she was a great help when I was still there.

Sorry I digressed.
What I want to say is, classmates are an important part of school but don’t ignore the fact
that it’s important to have a good relationship with your professors too.

To all readers who are going to graduate soon, don’t give up and try your best.
Even if it’s not for yourself, put in your best effort for your parents, for your boyfriend,
for your girlfriend, for your teacher, for your future, and for your precious time.
Graduation is just a tiny tiny obstacle you need to get past in life.

I would also like to take the chance to thank Associate Professor Lim Siow Yong from NTU School of Civil Engineering.
I think you played a huge part in my graduation and thank you so very much, Prof Lim.

🙂

And because you painstakingly read the post all the way until here, I thought I’ll just put in a few pictures I took today. Heh!
A made me a yummy brunch today with her fabulous culinary skills!
Check out the yummiest Aglio Olio in Singapore!

I feel so embarrassed to be swimming with a swim board!
I took swimming lessons for a year when I was 9 but still don’t know how to swim.
A lot of people attempted to teach me how to swim but all of them failed.
Well, I still can’t swim now.
All I can do is just to hold on to the board and kick around.
Beats sitting at home and getting fat, at least I get to work those legs a bit. Haha!

swimday

I’m so happy that my skin has improved so much since I last checked.
This afternoon, I saw a picture of myself taken about one year plus ago and I was appalled (by my own face).
Maybe I can share a little more on my next post because this post is seriously getting a little too long.
Hahaha.
I shall sign off here!
See you at the next entry. 🙂

ignite

I just came home from another meet up with the girlfriends.
What a great day!
I suddenly noticed that we are all big girls now.
As we casually talked about the hay days where we would meet up, chill all day and party all night,
I felt old and all grown up.
It was by chance how our paths in life crossed, but it was the effort we put in to maintain the friendship.
It really is easy to make new friends but hard to keep them all fresh and good.
Same thing for all kinds of relationships.
After our conversations, I realized that 2012 will be a fabulous year for us!
The two girls are getting hitched this year and the rest of us have big exciting plans coming up too.
I can’t wait.

Anyways.
We had dinner at Meatworks in ION (because all the other restaurants were packed).
The food was, honestly, not impressive at all.
Thank goodness the company was good. Heh!

I wore my new top from ASOS.com & I’m totally loving it!
I cannot really decide what colour it is but I think it’s vermillion.
A insists that it’s red though.
It’s funny how there are so many shades of each colour for some of us.
Like red could be vermillion, scarlet, wine, mahogany, ruby, crimson, auburn.
But for some people, red is just red. Hahahaha. Ok whatever.
I really like the top and it’s really comfy!
Best thing is, it’s on sale.
The free international shipping thing is really making me spend a lot of money. *grumbles*

11.022

I think I look like Christmas today.
A is wearing her Dr Marts and I think she looks fab in them! :p

11.027

A gave me this thing she bought from Hong Kong some time ago.
It’s like a “housefly eye” lens thing that you can put in front of the camera lens to take pictures with special effects.
It’s super cute and I love it!

11.028

This couple days has been great for me!
A and I have been together for 9 months.
Time really flies. It felt like it has only been 3 months sometimes.
We have been together with each other almost every single moment, except for times when we had no choice.
And we are with each other almost every single night too.
I think I’m loving the stickiness. Haha.
Lately, A is determined to teach me how to swim.
Yes. I can’t swim.
I think I’m a horrible student because I’d whine all day long saying how I’m hydrophobic and stuff.
But truth is, I just hate being submerged in water and I really have the fear that I might have water in my nose.
I always try to talk her out of swimming trips, or just bug her to let me just suntan my afternoons away.
This are some snapshots when I managed to whisk her away to Tanjong Beach Club for just a lazy evening with beer.

11.025

I think she is going to drag me to the pool again tomorrow. *whines*
As some of you might already know, A has 2 dogs and 3 cats.
Of late, things haven’t been very good for the 3 cats because they are all ill now.
Bert, who is already 16 years of age now, had been diagnosed with diabetes last week.
He now needs insulin jabs every day and we also need to pay extra attention to what we feed him.
The poor old boy has lost so much weight and it aches our hearts to see him looking small and weaker.

Bacchus and Barnabas, who are a pair of strays A adopted couple years back are both down with cold.
One keeps sneezing and the other one cannot stop coughing and letting out voiceless meows.
😦
Hope they get well soon!

This was taken when we took Bert to The Animal Clinic next to TheGardenSlug last week.

11.026

Speaking of The Garden Slug, the food and people there are really nice.
For those (especially the westies) who haven’t visited that place before, do drop by when you’re free.
It’s a pets friendly restaurant and there are always a lot of cut furkids there.
That’s the sick boys and us.
The pictures are taken using iPhone app PuddingCam. 🙂

Fun and serious stuff aside, we also took time out to do proper work.
I met up with some clients regarding some blog advertorials and A went for her appointments.
We also had meetings and stuff.
I am totally excited about the new blog layout that is coming up really soon.
[Sorry that my blog is looking a little messy now]

Desktop8-1

I also received pretty clothes from Damsel In Disdress couple days ago.
I specially got this romper because the colour and design is SO cute!
After it appeared in Sunday Advertorials last week, I think all the pieces were sold out already!
The girls at DIDD are now doing a backorder now, so click here if you’re keen!

And I shall end off today’s post with some pretty silhouette pictures A and I took today.
Goodnight my friends & have a really good weekend ahead.
P.S. Don’t forget to check back this Sunday for the new blog layout and exciting Sunday Advertorials! Heh.

The Youth Booster

Hope it has been a fabulous Monday for everybody!
I’ve had a lot of fun shopping and stuff today and also bought new facial foam and perfume!
Gees. I love being a girl!
Speaking about skincare, I wanna share this new treasure I have just tried lately.
Have you ever felt that your regular skincare products will somehow lose its effectiveness after a while?
That even if it’s something that was very suitable for your skin, it doesn’t seem to be working as well as before?
If you said yes, then you’re not alone!

There is no scientific explanation to proof this observation but I believe all of us have experienced this before.
Before this, I have never seen a similar product in the market and I was pleasantly surprised
when I read up more about this new product.

The L’Oréal Youth Code Boosting Essence is a new product that helps your skin
absorb active ingredients in skincare better and hence boosting your skincare effectiveness by two times!

Screen shot 2012-02-06 at PM 07.19.39

This little bottle is not here to replace your regular skincare products but it will definitely be their best friend,
to help make all the results your current products promised come true.
I have always thought trying out various products and brands over and over again
to find the perfect one a long and tedious process.
And it is never easy to find the one product that is suitable for me,
the one that doesn’t give me breakouts and rashes.
So when I found out about this Boosting Essence, I was thrilled!

Screen shot 2012-02-06 at PM 07.20.01

It comes with a small pipette so it makes application very easy.

Oh! And I LOVE the smell too!
I hate that sticky and “thick” feeling when I pile on layers and layers of products on my skin.
So I was a little apprehensive about adding another product to my daily regime initially.
But the texture of this essence is awesome because after the product gets absorbed, I swear it feels like nothing at all!
Even better than all of the other essence I have!
Really felt like nothing at all!
It was almost like water but feels and smells so much nicer.
Instant results you can see are how the skin looks fresher and is softer to touch.
I’m glad that after one week of usage
(and especially during the Chinese New Year period where I had to put on heavier makeup almost everyday),
my skin still remains supple and “perky”.
The face felt like it just finished a 2 weeks makeup-free holiday! :p

reaching a bottleneck at giving you good results!

Thank me later! :p

It’s the weekend!

I have been really busy with some work and have also been working closely with the designer
to come up with a brand new look for my SIXPEGS!
This is the first time I am actually hiring external help to design the website and I’m totally thrilled!
I hope I will be able to make my “new home” even prettier while still retaining it’s clean black & white theme.
Will be back with more posts but please bear with me while I try to make this space a prettier and more fun one!

Peace xx

Names that begin with A

Today, I am here to gossip about others.
Coincidentally, all three of them have names starting with A.
They are all very interesting people, but in very different ways.
One wrenched my heart, the other made me bewildered and the last one made my toes laughed out loud.

Ok, I cannot wait to share so I shall start now!!

For those who have watched enough local comedies and sitcoms, you would have seen Abigail Chay before.
In the past (actually even until recently), I have always been unable to determine her gender.
Do you know she is also the daughter of the famous McDonalds Granny who appeared in many McDonalds TVC in the 90s?
For those who don’t know how Abigail looks like, here is a few pictures to refresh your memory.

I chanced upon a video about her life not too long ago and it really touched my heart.
I never knew the woman whom everyone laughed at and teased actually had such a turbulent life,
and spending many years of her life in turmoil and confusion.

The following excerpt is taken from thestar:

She was born Caesar Chay Tuck Kwong and had her formal education at an all-boys school.

But even at the tender age of five, she knew she wasn’t like other boys,
who’d kick a football about and catch spiders in her neighbourhood, while she played dolls with the girls.
Whenever her mother was out, she would play with her make-up.
Another time, a majie (housekeeper) in the family’s employ put her in a dress and took her to a nearby provision shop.

“The neighbours all remarked, ‘wah, you really look like a girl’.
I was so happy,” she says, flashing a toothy grin at the thought.

But school was hardly a drag, even though there was the annoying presence of
a bully who used to rain punches on the effeminate 12-year-old Chay.
When Chay’s backlane friends wanted to teach the bully a lesson, she put her pale,
frail body between him and the small mob – something which earned the respect of the bully,
who stopped his taunts and told Chay she had yi qi (Mandarin for loyalty).

“School was actually a place to take my mind away from being a girl trapped in a boy’s body,” she recounts,
absent-mindedly twirling her clumpy long tresses again.
“Whenever nice-looking guys came and talked to me and I felt attracted to them, I always felt sinful.”

That feeling of guilt – born partly out of being the only son and child of traditional Cantonese and Christian parents,
both of whom worked in clerical jobs – pushed Chay to date a girl from church at 15.

“She was wondering why we never held hands over the one year we were together.
She asked me what the status of our relationship was. I said, ‘I tried, but I don’t think I can’.”

Unable to love a girl and unable to let herself fall in love with boys,
the teenage Chay read psychology books and decided a sex change was the solution.

But, first, there was the business of National Service,
which she had to endure after her pre-university education at Our Lady of Lourdes.

“I was scared to death of going into the army. I thought I would surely be humiliated for being a soft boy.”

But, “wilfully optimistic”, she thought the experience might toughen her up.

As it turned out, not only did she not suffer at the hands of macho men,
everyone was protective of the skinny boy, with some fellow soldiers even offering to clean and carry her rifle.

After National Service, she worked as a window display artist
at a fashion store – “ironically, it was called Heshe”, she recalls.

Her mother also paid for her to attend a modelling course,
and it was there that she met a transsexual who told her about a rumour of a new government policy
that would see new transsexuals get “marked” on their identity cards by the end of the year.

Fearful of being branded for life and in a hurry to beat the supposed deadline,
Chay finally came clean with her parents and pleaded with them to pay for her sex change.

Here are four clips you can watch to find out more about Abigail’s life story.

I think she is really brave and lucky to have such supportive parents.
Next time when you wanna laugh about how out of place she looks, think again. 🙂

I recently also watched Jack Neo’s new movie “I Not Naughty” with A and my Mom.
I checked out the reviews on the Golden Village website and saw some comments about this certain Amos Yee in the movie.
All bad comments, just in case you’re wondering.
So after the movie, I decided to head home and find out for myself who on earth this Amos Yee is.
And to my surprise, this Amos Yee is actually this annoying potato boy in the movie.

I wondered how a 14-year-old kid can stir so much shit and cause so much unhappiness, so, I went to check it out.
And to my horror, the Zhonghua Secondary School student is not only a smart alec but also a spoilt and arrogant brat.
All his fame started when he won the FiRST Film Fest organized by The New Paper with his painful-to-watch video, Jan.

Seriously don’t know what is so funny.
Little Amos must be influenced by those NigaHiga and Kev Jumba videos. Meh.
Ok, the thing is, there’s nothing wrong with a 14-year-old trying to be creative and experimental.
And apparently, he REALLY speaks with that American accent.

All the trouble started when he posted a video mocking the origins of the Chinese zodiacs and
stating how he feels the Chinese New Year is “copying the American New Year”, leaving many netizens enraged and agitated.
He calls the Youtube video “a joke executed well”.
And of course, this joke has already been removed from Youtube.

UPDATE: Managed to find the video uploaded by another Youtube user. Here it is!

Jack Neo gave him one of the roles in his movie because the director was impressed by him during the film fest.
Instead of being thankful and appreciative for the chance and recognition,
he talked crap about the movie at its press conference.

Damn well done.

Here are some excerpts from xinmsn.

The teenager further elaborated his views when he was asked on how would have improved on the script and shared,
“There shouldn’t be so much weird transitions.”

“Do you realised that the film has a lot of fade in and jumps from scenes over and over and over again,”
the Zhonghua Secondary School student said and added, “That is confusing.”

That’s not all. On the development of the characters in the movie, he said,
“You can do it at the beginning but it goes on for the entire film.”

“And that bothers me,” he revealed, “and my whole family agrees that it’s freaking messy.”

Despite his critical remark, the 14-year-old actor was earlier spotted singing praises of movie director Jack Neo during the conference.

“Oh, Jack Neo, you are awesome. You are like my uncle,” he proclaimed. He also mentioned that he likes his scenes in the movie.

Watch the interview here if you wanna be annoyed by the kid too.
Reeeaaaaallllyyyy arrogant, spoilt and 不会做人, that’s all I can say.

Ok, and for the third interesting person today, I shall introduce Mr Aaron Tan!
I came across this person from MrBrown’s website.
It happened quite long ago so I hope there will be a few people out there (like me!) who haven’t heard of him before.
Hehe!

Apparently this 18-year-old Ah Beng made a video to threaten a 14-year-old kid
who tried to “be funny” with his girlfriend on Facebook.
And get this. His girlfriend’s name on Facebook is Nina Wantyouonly
and the 14-year-old kid is called http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000745753183.
Freaking haps.
How come people wanna put such funny names on Facebook ah?
The Ryan boy got balls also. According to his Facebook info,
he is from the same secondary school as Aaron – Bulok Town Secondary.
Yeah the Aaron boy is 18 and still in Bulok Town.

I think this Aaron is quite interesting and I really had a look laugh.
Priest lor. Is lily beh funny lorz!

t.at.too.s

Tattoos are addictive.

I’ve been wanting to get another tattoo for the longest time.
But I haven’t decided what I want yet.
There are many designs I’ve been looking at,
but I’m taking my own time because I know the answer will come to me at the right time.
It’s always like that.

Since I’m at the the topic of tattoos, I wanna share some of the gorgeous pictures I found.
I hope you like them too.

And I think I’ve listed it into one of my favourite designs.
I drew a little moustache on my finger and see what how much fun it can be!
