Bangkok II

I’m back with more details about my Bangkok trip and more hangouts in the Land of Smiles to recommend!
A and I checked in to our second hotel for this trip!
I first read about MADUZI Hotel on the internet, and I was blown away by the decor in this hotel,
especially their unique bath tubs in all of their rooms!
This hotel also views the privacy of their hotel guests importantly.
There is no typical check-in counter in this hotel, all paper work are done in your rooms.
And the moment you enter the hotel, it just feels like home!
There is no crowd around any counters, you don’t see a lot of guests walking around too
because there is only slightly more than 40 rooms in there.

The hotel do not take guest reservations over the counter, so only prior reservations are accepted.
The gates to the hotel are almost always closed too, so you don’t get random strangers streaming in and out.

I like it!

We were allocated a room on the top floor.
When we entered the lift, we were very fascinated!
The lift was lit with red light, and the buttons in the lift spelt MADUZI.
Cute!

IMG_0855

IMG_0854

Once we enter the room, we were greeted by a cool looking coffee machine and fresh rambutans to welcome us!

IMG_0856

The room has a very special shape – shaped like a huge ‘C’.
At first, we thought the room was a little small, but every time we turn a corner, we get a new surprise!
I love the room!
It’s also super awesome that the room has a work corner with a printer meant for the guests!

IMG_0857

IMG_0858

The other most awesome thing is THE FREAKING BED!
I think it is the BIGGEST bed I have ever seen!
It is so big that when we run and jump on the bed, we still cannot touch any one end of the bed.
Hahahaha!

IMG_0859

IMG_0860

IMG_0861

IMG_0862

It really is very very big!
I think it’s a King-king of something. Heh!

IMG_0864

All of their rooms are non-smoking rooms, so for people who hates rooms that reek of smoke when you enter it,
this is the best man! 🙂
There is also a smoking corner in every level for the guests, so it wasn’t too bad for us.

IMG_0863

My favourite part of this room, however, is the bathroom!
It’s spacious and bright with a super long mirror so A and I
will never have to squeeze to stand in front of a small mirror anymore!

IMG_0865

IMG_0866

IMG_0868

The infinity bath tub is very special too.
The water comes from the ceiling eh!

IMG_0867

We tried the breakfast at MADUZI too!
I love the restaurant, especially the shelves of books between every table.

And it’s time to set out for some shopping and more good food!
Other than the usual eating and shopping, one of the must-go places in Bangkok is definitely the Erawan Shrine too.
It is the first time I went to the shrine with A and it was also my first time hiring the dancers in there.
Erawan Shrine is right next to Chit Lom BTS station by the way!

IMG_0807

IMG_0808

IMG_0809

IMG_0810

Regarding the dancers in this shrine, I heard some stories about
Nicholas Tse’s mother Deborah Li dancing nude in this shrine before.
It was said that she promised to dance naked before the Gods if she were to get famous.
Eventually, she became really well-known but didn’t go back to do what she promised.
She then became really ill and couldn’t get better despite medical help.
So in the end, she went back to Erawan Shrine and got the entire shrine enclosed so she could dance naked.
And she recovered.

Be careful what you promise in front of the Gods man!
This is another case I found online, although this is not at the Erawan Shrine,
it was also about a lady dancing naked in front of the Four Faced Buddha.

From the shrine, we also toured the malls around the area.
I heard about Greyhound cafe and I was too excited to bring A for a good lunch there!
You can google Greyhound in Bangkok if you wanna try the food there too.
The fusion cuisine there is really really good!

Here are some of the food we ordered!
I love the tom yum soup here because it comes with ravioli too! What a great combination!

IMG_0822

IMG_0823

The Thai iced milk tea is absolutely yummy too!
The ice cubes are actually all tea cubes, so even when the tea cubes start melting,
your tea will be kept cold and will not become diluted at all!

IMG_0821

Desserts are at Vanilla Brassiere which is just at the ground level in Siam Paragon.
I love the crepes here!

We then brought our full stomachs to do some typical tourists stuff.
I have never been the the Madame Tussaud museum so I was thrilled when I saw some discounts going on for their tickets!

(Some of them are dead already)

And as night falls, it’s time for the night market!
It was a Saturday so we visited the Ratchada Night Market.
I did some research and read about this place being a treasure cove for vintage finds!
It is not very big, all the stalls are all makeshift ones on a huge carpark.
I love the mood here though!
There are not a lot of tourists and you see a lot of locals shopping too.
When you see a lot of locals at a market, you know it is the place to be at because the prices will be low low LOW! 😀

As you can see in some of the pictures above, a lot of the stalls are set up in front of the owners’ vehicles!
There are also a lot of gorgeous vintage vehicles around here to check out as well!

War Against Varicose

Screen shot 2012-05-09 at AM 02.08.01

That picture above serves to attract your attention because I know everyone loves to look at and want to have killer legs.
It also aims to make you feel incompetent because your legs don’t look like those in the picture above.
But fret not, because most of us don’t have those legs!

Before I begin, I have to emphasize that this is not an advertorial for any brands.
Haha! Alright. The whole story started when A commented that the veins at the back of my knees are very obvious.
She called them “a little bit scary”.
I do not want to come across as being scary in any way so I decided to do a little research on those impending varicose veins.

Something random.
I used to think that those nasty looking veins are called “VERY COARSE VEINS”, well, because they are really very coarse.
I feel a little ridiculed when I realized that they were actually spelt “varicose veins”.
Why can’t they just make it easier and call them “very coarse veins”? Heh!
They are also called “spider veins”.
I think I’m quite smart.
Hahahaha.

And for the benefit of those who are born with absolutely gorgeous, flawless and problem-free legs,
this is what very-coarse varicose veins and how not-so-coarse-now-but-might-get-coarser-in-future varicose veins looks like.

Screen shot 2012-05-09 at AM 02.08.43

Screen shot 2012-05-09 at AM 02.08.51

Screen shot 2012-05-09 at AM 02.09.02

That last picture shown above is freaking scary.

Before I explain why I am suddenly talking about varicose veins at 2am on a Wednesday morning,
I shall share some information I found out about varicose veins because I think it’s good information for everyone.
Here is what I found from the internet.

CAUSES

Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins near the surface of the skin.
They are most common in the legs and ankles.
Though they usually aren’t serious, they can sometimes lead to other problems.
They are caused by the weakened valves in your veins, when they are not performing like how they should,
blood accumulates at those areas and pressure builds up.
Varicose veins runs in the family.
It is also more prominent among people who are overweight, pregnant,
or have jobs that require one to stand for long periods of time.
Varicose veins comes with age too.

SYMPTOMS

Veins appear blue or purple and twisted under the skin.
Some people do not have any symptoms.

Mild symptoms may include:
Heaviness, burning, aching, tiredness, or pain in your legs.
Symptoms may be worse after you stand or sit for long periods of time.
Swelling in your feet and ankles.
Itching over the vein.

More serious symptoms include:
Leg swelling.
Swelling and calf pain after you sit or stand for long periods of time.
Skin color changes.
Dry, thinned skin.
Inflammation.
Scaling.

They are usually not serious problems but if the blockage gets worse, deep vein thrombosis may occur.

OK. Now we have come to the part where I explain why I’m blogging about varicose veins today.
After the comment from A about those unsightly veins behind my knees,
I recalled reading somewhere about how compression stockings can help reduce appearance of varicose veins.
(There is also that TVC with Paige Chua rolling around on the bed recommending those stockings too)
So I bugged A and told her that I should probably try to get one of those stockings and see if it helps.

To my horror, the stockings I bought is freaking PURPLE IN COLOR!

I mean, no offence to anyone who likes purple because purple is nice color but personally,
purple thigh-high stockings with pink rims is as bad as Barney being a frigging purple dinosaur.

A has been calling me GRANNY since I started wearing these stockings and I’ve been feeling miserable.
Wait till I get nice slender legs! I’m sure she will be jealous! Hahaha.

I have only been wearing these stockings for two nights and the feeling is pretty good to be honest.
I wasn’t sure if it was because the stockings were tight or if it’s just the placebo event,
but I could almost feel blood pumping through my legs when I wear the stockings.
Almost like my legs were having a mild workout while I lay in bed trying to get to sleep!

IMG_3483

Pretty interesting feeling if you ask me.
But I really wish they had the stockings available in more colours though. Urgh.
Trust me, I look horrible in purple.

Other than being able to prevent varicose veins, these stockings are said to be able to tone the legs too.
N I C E .

Can you see the parts of the stockings that are supposedly tighter?

IMG_3482

For your information, some other ways to prevent varicose veins includes:
Propping up (elevating) your legs.
Avoid long periods of sitting or standing.
Get plenty of exercise.

Or for more serious cases, you can also consider getting sclerotherapy to close off the veins
or laser treatment and radiofrequency treatment to close off the veins.
They all sound very scary to me!

SO, let’s take good care of our legs together.
For good health and good looks! :p

Bangkok I

I AM FINALLY BACK!
The recent Bangkok trip has been great.
It was supposed to be a 7 day trip, but due to some last minute decisions,
we extended our trip and it became a 11 days one.
It was my first time staying in Bangkok for so many days.
And as to why I was there for such a long time, I shall reveal it in my next post! 🙂

For now, I just wanna share some of the places I visited in Bangkok and also a nice hotels I stayed in when I was there.
If you’re reading this now and will be travelling to Bangkok soon,
hope it would be of some help in your itinerary planning too!

IMG_0553

We tried out two hotels in this trip and both were absolutely fantastic – different and unique in their own ways.
The first boutique hotel we visited was TENFACE Hotel at Phloen Chit area.
This cosy little hotel has about slightly under 90 rooms so it is a great choice for us
because we didn’t want to stay in the usual big hotel chains.
The boutique hotel is relaxing to be in and everyone in there always has a smile on their faces!
We liked it!

The best thing is – the rooms were really pretty and spacious!

IMG_0453

IMG_0454

IMG_0455

IMG_0456

We stayed in the one bedroom suite, it comes with a spacious living room with balcony!
The decor is pretty much very modern looking with a bit of traditional twist here and there.
The entire hotel is designed around a traditional Thai legend,
that explains the many painting, sculptures and wordings all around the premises.

The room is self sufficient with coffee machine and all the usual things you need in the perfect hotel room.
We were also pleasantly surprised that they had even prepared a bucket of ice for us in the room when we first checked in.
Nice touch!

IMG_0457

IMG_0460

IMG_0459

IMG_0461

Each room comes with a little wooden box with all the hotel information you need.
In there, you can also find information about where to go, what to eat around the area and in the city.
The box also contains cards with the hotel address in Thai and directions to the hotel
so you can just show your taxi drivers the card instead of explaining the location of the hotel every time you board a cab.
On top of all that, there is also a one-day BTS card and a calling card you can use.

IMG_0458

IMG_0469

We were also given an iPod where you can go down to their lobby area to download movies and music from their system!
That’s totally awesome!
A and I didn’t get to try out the movies though because all the channels on the cable were sufficient to keep us happy.
Heh!

The bedroom is also super comfortable with a huge bed with 4 fluffy pillows!
I LOVE the bed!
Can I have such a pretty bed for my own room in future please?

IMG_0463

IMG_0465

IMG_0466

There are also different kinds of pillows you can choose from.

IMG_0462

The bathroom is spacious too.
I am super anal about bathrooms and cleanliness of the area, so this one definitely passed my standards.
The toiletries are all of spa quality!

IMG_0464

IMG_0468

IMG_0467

IMG_0470

We walked around the hotel a bit to have a little tour and we liked what we see.
There is a cute little dip pool (which we didn’t get the chance to have a little dipping in),
and also a nice restaurant designed to match the theme of the hotel.

IMG_0550

IMG_0546

IMG_0547

IMG_0548

IMG_0549

As we head out for our first stop of the day, we realized that the hotel
actually provide free tuk tuk to the nearest BTS station.
We were a little worried at first because we heard the nearest station is quite a distance away,
but the tuk tuk service solved it all!
The pretty tuk tuk will bring guests to and from Phloen Chit 24 hours a day.
You can use the calling cards they gave to call for the tuk tuks to bring you from the BTS station.
The ride from the hotel to the station is about 3 mins? Very near.

IMG_0471

IMG_0472

The first stop of the day was Terminal 21.
I read a lot about this mall and I was really excited about it!
It is designed to look like an airport and every level in the mall is made to look like different cities.
It was right next to Asok BTS station, super convenient too!
LOOK! It really looks like an airport, doesn’t it?

IMG_0483

IMG_0482

IMG_0498

IMG_0478

What I heard about this place is that the toilets at each level all have different designs,
and ALL of them are elaborately designed with details to suit the theme of each storey.
So the first thing we reached the mall was to go right up to the highest level and start checking out their toilets.
Call us crazy. Hahaha!

San Francisco Pier 21 toilet, everyone. Cute right?

IMG_0479

IMG_0480

IMG_0481

We saw SO many people camwhoring in their toilets. Lol.
Next up is the San Francisco City toilet.

IMG_0493

IMG_0495

IMG_0496

On the ‘Istanbul’ level, we can find a middle east looking restroom.
As you can see in the picture below, even the toilet attendant is dressed to theme.
Attention to details man!

Tokyo!
This one looks like a frigging Japanese restaurant. Haha!

IMG_0511

IMG_0512

Other than these, there is also Rome and Paris in the mall.
I shall leave those for you to find out on your own! 🙂

Lunch was at this cheery and colorful looking restaurant that served Thai food.
I had been itching for good Thai cuisine couple weeks before we set off for Bangkok
but A insisted that I should NOT eat any Thai food since we will be heading there soon.
I have to say – I AM SO HAPPY when I can finally have my Thai food fix!

IMG_0510

For dinner, I brought A to this restaurant I read about online.
It’s called TUBA – a furniture/design restaurant where all the furnitures in the restaurant is actually for sale!
Interesting right?
The decor is really cute!
Many of the furnitures didn’t match at all, but when they were put together,
they somehow still looked very pleasing on the eyes.
I love this place and to top it off, the food there was REALLY good!
They serve Italian, Thai and some fusion stuff.
Dinner with drinks came up to about 800 baht for us. Pretty worthwhile for such good food if you ask me!

Enough of the words.
Here are some pictures so you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about.

The place is double storey and there are really a lot of tables in there.
I heard it might get crowded during weekends so we were happy it was almost empty when we were there that early evening.
The thing about this place is, the entire restaurant is smokers-friendly.
So if you’re bringing babies or if you can’t stand smoke, it might be a bit of a problem for you.
STILL, for the absolutely good food, I’ll have to say, the little bit of smoke is definitely worth it!

TUBA Restaurant
34 Ekkamai Soi 21
(Off Sukhumvit Soi 63)

We returned to the hotel room and it was all cleaned up.
To top it off, we were given a fresh fruit plate and some snacks from the hotel.
This is what I call hospitality. 🙂

IMG_0544

Will be back to introduce other places I visited during the Bangkok trip and to share my Bangkok itinerary!
I also did something to my teeth while I was there, shall tell you more in my next post.
Peace xx

K ki Cafe

A and I will be on our way to our first Bangkok trip together.
I did some research on where to go and what to eat,
and I was devastated when I realized that Suan Lom Night Market is gone!

I used to like that place so much despite the expensive food, etc.
After reading some forums and travel sites, I found a couple other night markets!
One is called Rod Fai, another one called Ratchada Lad Phrao Night Market.
I heard they sell a lot of vintage and 2nd hand stuff.
Got no idea how we can get there though, if you have any idea or have been there,
please share some information! We would really appreciate it!

As for accommodation, we’ll be checking out two hotels – TENFACE and MADUZI Hotel.
I’m thrilled!

For now, let me share this new cafe we visited at Ann Siang Hill.
It’s called K ki and within the same space,
you can also find The Little Dröm Store which sells a lot of cute knick knacks, clothes and accessories.

Little Part 1

A was excited and smiling sheepishly this afternoon when she told me there is a place she wants to bring me.
When I asked her where it was, she blurted it out, then after giving it a second thought,
told me she won’t tell me and that I should check it out for myself.

And so the car took us to the familiar Upper Thomson area.
It passed by the usual stretch where all the cafes we visit are located and went by Thomson Plaza.
Before I know it, we pulled over outside a quaint little cafe named Little Part 1 Cafe.
What an odd name for a cafe.

Screen shot 2012-04-24 at AM 01.27.40
IMG_0115

IMG_0116

The name of the cafe was spelt out clearly like how they did it in old school movie theaters.
“Little Part 1” makes me wonder if there is a Part 2 or Part 3 somewhere else in Singapore.
I guess it’s a good name if the owners are looking at opening up more branches in future! Heh.

The cafe is not very big but it has both indoor and outdoor dining areas.
The space is about 50% indoor and 50% outdoor dining.
(I don’t like how most of the cafes have more seats indoors than outdoors. I like alfresco dining!)

It strikes me as an unpretentious and laid back cafe.
I like how the cafe is almost empty on a cloudy Monday afternoon,
and the servers don’t hover around your tables because yours is the only table they are attending to.
The fact that it’s tucked up in a corner off the main Upper Thomson Road makes it even more appealing.

Here are some snapshots of the place.
(Didn’t feel too awkward walking around the place because it was just us & another table of youngsters)
Heh!

That was just one small part of their menu, to give you an idea of what kind of cuisine to expect,
and the price range of the food there.
We heard a lot about the Big-Mug Hot Chocolate from Little Part 1, so we were expected to try it out!

Other than good, honest food, this is a perfect place for solo cafe goers too because of the huge array of entertainment!
Shelves of books are available for you to check out – novels, travel guides, etc.
Or if you’re going there with a group of friends, there are some board/card games you could borrow too.

IMG_0119

IMG_0129

IMG_0133

IMG_0137

If I’m not wrong, you could also donate some of your old books to fill their racks too!
The serenity was perfect for me to work on my itinerary for my Bangkok trip that’s coming up this Thursday.
To top it off, I’m thankful this cafe plays tasteful indie music instead of trashy pop.

The food was fabulous!
We ordered a serving of Original Buffalo Wings and Curry Flavour Fries.
The wings aren’t really up A’s alley, but I loved them because they are spicy with a little bit of sourness.
However, we were both big on the fries! YUMMY!

A succumbed to the Hot Chocolate temptation and ordered one of their well known Big-Mug Hot Chocolate.
I wasn’t in the mood for beer, so it was Strawberry Banana Smoothie for me.
They were both damn good, especially the Hot Chocolate!
The marshmallows melt on the surface of the drink, it’s just totally orgasmic!

There is also a back door that leads you straight to Thomson Plaza too!

Dim Sum @ Thomson

Before I begin on my newfound Dim Sum haunt at Upper Thomson Road, let me show you my iPad case!
I’ve been looking around for the perfect iPad case after I bought my new toy but to no avail.
Then A and I decided, “Why not make it ourselves!”

So, here is our very own iPad case!

IMG_0073

We started out with the doing paper mache for one full night!
And to make sure the surface is not too bumpy, we sticked cardboards onto the bumpy surfaces.
And picked a fabric we like from Chinatown!

IMG_2935

IMG_2936

We also pasted a piece of magnet on one of the sides.

IMG_2937

IMG_2938

We also bought iron on alphabets! Velvety ones. I love it!

IMG_2939

IMG_2940

The insides of the case was made with oil painting paper.

IMG_2941

IMG_2943

The black elastic band can also make sure the case is snug when closed.

IMG_2942

And ironed on “P”! I know it’s crooked.
Make me very angry! Damn.

IMG_2972

We are still looking for a black tape to paste on the spine to give it an old school notebook feel.
I love our one and only iPad case! 🙂

A also brought me to this dim sum place at Upper Thomson Road.
According to her, this place has very high hits and ratings online so we decided to check it out!

The eating place is pretty old and run down.
But if you ask me, it does has its own charms.

IMG_2944

IMG_2949

IMG_2945

IMG_2946

They serve zichar and dim sum at this place. The menu is pretty extensive!
This time round, we only had enough space in our tummies for dim sum.
The dim sum counter is pretty old school and Hong Kong style with all the food laid out for you to pick.

IMG_2948

IMG_2947

One of the highly recommended item is the duck porridge from the zichar stall!

IMG_2950

IMG_2951

Here are some of the dishes we ordered.
I swear they taste better than it looks! :D”
*mouth-watering*

IMG_2952

IMG_2953

IMG_2956

IMG_2954

IMG_2955

The prices are very affordable and reasonable too.
It can get pretty crowded during dinner times and this whole stretch of road got lots of other nice food too!
I’m so jealous of those people who stay around Thomson. *sulks*

After dinner, we moved on to Salted Caramel which is just a couple doors down.
A told me she wanted to bring me for some salted ice cream. Haha!
This place is pretty awesome!
They are pretty new and they had the balls to set up the store right next to Udders.
Can you imagine the confidence they have in their products? :p

[Thanks to readers Shirlynn and S, it was Udders who set up their shop next to theirs! Haha!]

We tried, and indeed, it was fantastic! They had more customers than Udders when we were there!

IMG_2957

IMG_2958

IMG_2959

IMG_2960

IMG_2968

Other than ice cream, they serve other things like beverages and cakes too.

IMG_2961

IMG_2962

And my favourite, ICE CREAM!

IMG_2964

IMG_2963

The flavour I picked, Salted Caramel!

IMG_2965

The flavour is very unique, a little salty (but still sweet).
Normally caramel would be crazy sweet but this one is totally perfect!
You just need to add another 50 cents for an ice cream cone.

IMG_2969

If you like their ice cream, you can do takeaways too!
Their takeaway packs are so cute!

IMG_2966
IMG_2967

Will be back to bring you more nice hideouts and interesting stuff!
Have a good week ahead friends 🙂

Best iPad Apps

I just got my very own iPad two days ago & I’m totally in love with it.
Many thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks to A for the wonderful present!

IMG_0021

And after I got everything set up, I went ahead to do my app shopping.
Here are some of the awesome apps I have on my iPad (and some on iPhone as well).
Some of you have been asking me which app I’ve been using for the photos in my previous blog entry,
I’ve shared that AMAZING app in here too.
Here is a header I made, decorated with pictures from my Instagram!
Follow me on Instagram if you haven’t!

Hope you guys love it!

FLIPBOARD

This is where you can combine Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr and other stuff into one app.
The presentation is absolutely gorgeous too with the pictures displayed in a magazine format.
I always dislike how you cannot scroll the pictures in the Instagram app
(can only see them in thumbnails and click one by one).
Well, with this app, you can do it now!
Find out more about this app here.

美图秀秀

This is the app where I do all my photo editing.
Photoshop has always been too cheem for me, so this one is totally up my alley.
So easy to use and there are lots of functions to play around with!

IMG_0059

IMG_0060

Here are also some new photos I took of my new knitted cropped top from The Outliers!
The colours of the photo are edited by this app.
Oh! And this app helps you make collages too!
I love this top and I’m looking forward to pairing it with my new sheer long skirt! 😀

PAPER by FIFTYTHREE

This app is recommended to me by Evonne.
“THANKS DEAR!”
I love this app because I can now doodle, design banners for my blog, write and scribble on it!
You will have to buy more tools and brushes though because the free version only comes with the basic pen tool.
Each tool costs 1.99USD by the way, but it’s worth it!
Check out what I doodled!
I wanted to check out another cafe called The Coffee Daily today so I drew this banner.
(The cafe was closed when I got there today though, damn. Will try again tomorrow)

FUNSHION

I l.o.v.e Funshion!
I was a huge fan of it when I was on my PC, and I was really upset when I couldn’t use it anymore on Mac.
Now that it’s available on iPads, I am thrilled!
I tried it out and it works really well.
The live streaming is fast and there are lots of movies, drama, variety available on the app.
It works on both WIFI and 3G, try it out!
Oh, the app is in Chinese though.
The movies are not dubbed though, and they all come with Chinese subtitles.

iPHOTO

This is one app A swears by.
You can almost do anything to your photos on this app, and it’s as good as Photoshop!
The app costs 4.99USD though, but if you do a lot of editing to your photos
and wanna do it on-the-go, then say HI to the iPhoto app!

Mustard is the new yellow.

This week has been a rather busy one and I apologize for my week-long disappearance.
A’s granny was not well and was admitted into the hospital.
Hope she gets better soon.
The visit to the hospital reminds me a lot of the times when I visited my own granny in the hospital.
I don’t really like that place.

My Mom is overseas in China & that means that I’ll have to look after Maliboo 24/7 throughout the week.
That also means that Boo has been spending a lot of time with the three cats in A’s bedroom. Haha!
So to reward her and let her feel slightly better about life (lol), we brought her to a dog cafe.

Happy Daze is located in Serangoon, they not only serve drinks and bar grub,
there is also a menu for the little furkids!
And the really nice part is, even if you didn’t order anything for your dogs,
they will also readily bring out a doggie bowl so that the doggies can get their supply of fresh water!

Happy Daze Cafe & Bistro
11 Maju Avenue
Open everyday from 3pm to 1am

This is not exactly the perfect place to go to for food though.
But if you’re looking for an unpretentious and laid back place to hang out with friends,
then try this place out.
Nice place for a midweek beer too!

IMG_2610

Boo had her meatballs fix and I had my beer fix.
As for A, she is driving so it was non-alcoholic Earl Grey float for her. :p

IMG_2599

IMG_2763

IMG_2766

IMG_2765

IMG_2764

IMG_2767

These are the meatballs I ordered for Boo!
They come in chicken or beef flavour and I ordered the latter because chicken is not very good for her skin.
They do serve pasta for dogs too! Interesting. Heh!

IMG_2768

IMG_2769

On the way back home, we drove with the top down and Boo had too much wind in her face.
HAHAHA.
This following picture I am going to show you is total epic.
Note: This shot is taken at 105km/h

Sorry it’s so blur! 😡

IMG_2672

And Boo had to face the cats after the ride. Hahaha!
She just got “STUNNED” written all over her face.

IMG_2770

Because it’s a sleepover, A gave Boo a nice hoodie to wear to sleep.
Boo looks like she’s out at some chalet or something. Freaking adorable!

IMG_2771

IMG_2772

IMG_2773

I hope she had a good day out!

A and I have been stuffing our faces too.
I want to bring your attention to this awesome pasta she made me.
I seriously think this is the BEST pasta I’ve ever had – better than those I had in Rome!
Just good truffle oil, caviar and al dente angel hair pasta.
This little plate of thing sends me right up to heaven!

Thanks for the treat, love!

IMG_2578

We also had some Japanese at MOF in Bugis Junction.
I always thought people would just go there for desserts.
They actually serve pretty decent food too!
This is cold ramen with salon and avocado.

IMG_2774

And Creme Brulee. It tastes really good with vanilla ice cream!
We MUST try serving our homemade Creme Brulee with vanilla ice cream in future.
As for the Creme Brulee itself, I think we make better ones! *confident*
Hahaha.

IMG_2775

And I finally brought my old (new) oversized clutch out too!
I am also loving the horsie-print top I bought from Zara in Rome.

The vintage looking watch is from Rome.
They were all Murano glass watches that originated from Venice though.
I love the red and the multi-colored clock face!

And as some of you might already know, two of my closest girlfriends will be getting married this year!
Sinsin will be getting hitched in May and Lianie in December.
There will be many hearts breaking out there as the two wonderful girls finally settle down. Heh.
I accompanied them for another fitting and this fitting was really special!

IMG_2799

This bridal studio is actually in a flat unit in Bukit Batok!
I was really blown away when I was there because it’s so amazing to have a bridal studio in a flat.
The owner, Ceciline can just pull a couple curtains and the corner will look cosy like a bridal studio.
They even have their own platform for the bride to stand on when trying on the dresses.
It doesn’t feel as stressful as visiting a typical bridal studio.
No other couples hanging around in the shop too.
Undivided attention rocks! Hahaha.

The girls tried on some gorgeous dresses!

IMG_2778

IMG_2779

IMG_2780

IMG_2781

IMG_2782

I love the details on this dress!
They were all hand sewn! Can you imagine the hard work?
According to the designer, you can actually show her what design you want and
she can sew you your very own unique wedding dress!
Freaking awesome. Hahaha.
I don’t understand how some people can sew so well.
I cannot sew to save my life man!

IMG_2785

IMG_2786

IMG_2787

IMG_2797

This is the platform! Pretty.

IMG_2788

Lianie is here to try out the gowns too!
I think we were a little noisy at the fitting this afternoon.
But it’s so fun because we feel totally at home in the house! 😀

IMG_2789

IMG_2792

Look at this fabric! All hand sewn! *jaw drop*

IMG_2793

IMG_2794

IMG_2795

Lianie goofing around, as usual!

IMG_2790

It is not easy to be the husband too. Haha!

IMG_2796

Oh if you are interested in this freaking cool bridal shop, it’s called The Wedding Ateliers!

The girls and I later went for our yummy buffet dinner at Park Royal again!

IMG_2798

You girls are beautiful and I love y’all!

Old School Delights

I have heard a lot about Old School Delights!
Every time we drive by Upper Thomson Road, A would say “Hey wanna go Old School Delights?”
Hahaha! And yes, we finally made our way there earlier this week.

IMG_2442

I have to say that this place put a smile on my face as soon as I stepped into the cafe.
There are lots of stuff that reminds me of my childhood days!
Here are some pictures to give you a virtual tour of the place if you haven’t been there before!

IMG_2449

I LOVE that huge blackboards!
I want to have a HUGE blackboard in my future home too! 😀

There are toys and other stuff on sale.
Also a lot of old books that you can read or browse through when you’re having a meal.
This is a perfect place to have lunch alone because there are so many things around to keep you occupied.

They serve cakes, and other Asian food like Mee Siam, Macaroni Soup with Shredded Chicken, etc.
I like how we can write our orders down on a little whiteboard. Heh!

IMG_2443

IMG_2444

IMG_2446

IMG_2452

I had the macaroni and also tried their drumlets.
Good stuff!
OH! The Milo Dinosaur was awesome too! 🙂

IMG_2466

IMG_2467

Feel a bit like tuckshop food. Heh!

There is a little “toy box” on every table that contains toys to keep you entertained while waiting for your food too.
Ours had five stones, erasers and a deck of Donkey cards.
I MISS THOSE ERASERS!!
I remember going to the school bookshop to buy those erasers when I was in Primary School. :p

IMG_2445

IMG_2447

It is 清明节 again.
My family and I gathered at Bright Hill early Thursday morning.
This year is a little different because Granny is no longer with us this year.
It is the first time I see Granny’s urn next to Grandpa’s. 😦

This time round, after paying respects to my grandparents,
I followed my aunts and Mom to tour around the entire temple grounds and checked out the various temples.
This place is actually a really gorgeous place!
I hate that there is so many people at this time of the year though.

On our way there, my Mom and I were complaining about the traffic jam and crowds.
It was then when the taxi driver said something very interesting.
“This place is home to tens of thousands of people!”
“It is like Chinese New Year to them today!”

Hahahaha. True that.
I shall not complain.

IMG_2438

IMG_2439

IMG_2440

I went to one of the shop there that sells all kinds of Buddhist stuff.
And guess what? I bought this! Hahaha.
I told A that I paid $18 for this and she laughed at me. 😦
I thought it’s really pretty. *sulks*

IMG_2472

The following morning, A and I were tasked to head to the wet market at Toa Payoh to get stuff for her Mom.
It has been AGES since I last went to a wet market!
And it really reminds me of the days when Granny would bring me to the markets in the morning. 🙂

This is our 7am face.

IMG_2477

She brought me to Lorong 7 for some kickass breakfast! YUMMY!

IMG_2474

IMG_2476

KNS Indian Muslim Food. Hahahaha!
Why oh why do people name their stores KNS? Why.

The skin on Boo’s ears is red and dry lately.
There is a funky smell too.
So we brought her to the vet at The Animal Clinic since the meds from Mt Pleasant didn’t really work.
I think I’m going to bring Boo to The Animal Clinic from now on.
The advice and service I get from the former is so much better! Hmm.

Here is the adorable Boo in the car, still oblivious about where she’s going.
Ahem.
So cute!

First Of The Gang

Thursday afternoon. Scorching hot sun. The fly hovers around aimlessly.
I am in my room.
The bright blue rug that I once loved has been rolled up and tucked in a corner.
My room smells of sleep, Maliboo and cigarettes.
My table is messy with useless vouchers, receipts, an unused fork and stickers I use to decorate my polaroids.
My love is lying on my bed next to my dog.
My love is looking at her phone.
My dog is looking at me.
I am looking at my screen, trying to put the next blog post together.

I hope you guys are all coping with Thursday well so far!
Friday is here and it is a public holiday!
I did a video of amateur me singing First Of The Gang by Zee Avi on Wah Pen Pen yesterday.

I hope it will make your day better if you’re having a not-so-good time.

First Of The Gang
Zee Avi

You have never been in love till you’ve seen the star
reflect in the reservoirs
And you have never been in love
till you’ve seen the dawn rise
behind the home for the blind

We are the pretty, petty thieves
and you’re standing on our streets where
Hector was the first of the gang with the gun in his hand
and the first to do time, first of the gang to die
Oh my
Hector was the first of the gang with the gun in his hand
and the first to do time, first of the gang to die
Oh my

You have never been in love until you’ve seen the sunlight thrown
over smashed human bone
We are the pretty, petty thieves
and you’re standing on our streets where
Hector was the first of the gang with the gun in his hand
and the first to do time, first of the gang to die
Such a silly boy
Where Hector was the first of the gang with the gun in his hand
and a bullet in his gullet
First lost lad to go under the sod

And he stole from the rich and the poor and the not very rich and the very poor
He stole all hearts away, he stole all hearts away, he stole all hearts away, away
he stole all hearts away, he stole all hearts away, he stole all hearts away

IMG_2336

LIKE it if you are fine with me flooding this space with videos. Haha!
Or if there are any songs you think I should try out, drop me a comment too!
