Vanilla Cafe

A and I checked out this little bar & cafe at Boon Tat Street yesterday. It was a nice little place with friendly (but somewhat strange, I’ll get to that later) waitresses. And the best thing is, we were the only ones there when we were there! It is a clean and bright place that looks relatively welcoming. The two young waitresses who were there that afternoon were pleasant and cheerful too! The decor was simple but it works for me, I especially liked the little outdoor area at the back of the cafe. But because it was a little too warm, we chose to dine indoors. The choices on the menu all looked very attractive! They serve mostly Western food with a bit of Japanese twist. I like how they have pictures in the menu too. Sorry. Pet peeve when it comes with menu with no pictures. Ahem. Oh! For people who loves all day breakfast, Vanilla can now join your list of “breakfast cafes” too! Hope you can get an idea of the …

Eu Yan Sang

I am excited about this post because I feel obliged to share what I have learnt from my visit to Eu Yan Sang recently! I have always felt that I am a healthy and tough cookie, but it was only weeks ago when I heard of a new term called “sub-health problems”. Yes. I know you are scratching your head now thinking about what on earth sub-health problems are. In layman’s term, sub-health is the state between health and actual illness. For instance when you feel unwell, you’re always tired, you suffer from insomnia, stress, irregular menstrual cycles etc, but the doctor cant find anything particularly wrong with you… these may be symptoms of sub-health. You can actually still live with and function with sub-health but if the symptoms are leave unattended, they may gradually evolve into more serious medical conditions. I know. Sounds very scary. Haha! I shall lighten the mood a little with some pictures I took at the Eu Yan Sang Premier TCM Centre at Camden Medical Centre, which is just a …

Set Yourself on Fire

WHEN THERE’S NOTHING LEFT TO BURN, YOU HAVE TO SET YOURSELF ON FIRE. I’m here today to introduce this amazing album from Stars that I’m hopelessly addicted to. The first song I heard from this album is the track called Calendar Girl. After hearing that this Indie band has many other songs that is worth a listen, I checked out their third album named “Set Yourself On Fire” and I was blown away! The songs in the album is all about love and life. Pretty much brings us through the different stages of life and of a relationship. Here are some of the songs that I particularly love. “Your Ex-Lover is Dead” is about meeting an ex-lover again after a long time. I like how they described every emotion through small details. Here are the lyrics to the song: God, that was strange to see you again Introduced by a friend of a friend Smiled and said, “Yes, I think we’ve met before” In that instant it started to pour Captured a taxi despite all …

Life Gets Better Tomorrow

Tonight, I felt inclined to share my thoughts and feelings about my personal life. Some people might call me brave. Some people might call me stupid; because hereforth, I will be labelled as different. When my friends mention me to their friends, I would probably be described as “gay”. Some might think that I am just juvenile and confused, not knowing what I want at the age of 27. There would also be some people, like many of you, who would think that being different is not a big deal. Because we are all free to love who we are, and gender does not matter. If you are one of few, thank you. Someone once told me that straight people are just lucky because they belong to the majority. Putting aside who is in the majority and who is not, have you ever thought about why most of us think that being straight is normal while being gay is not? Who decides what is normal and what is not? The society? The society and our …

Theone & Ulva

It was a happy Thursday for Ulva and Theone because they get to go to the beach! A’s brothers, Max and Shawn came along as well and the 4 of us brought the two girls to Sentosa for some fun in the sun. It has been a while since I went to the beach and it was really nice, especially with the company of the furkids! “WE ARE HERE!!!” We headed over Tanjong Beach Club! Always preferred this area to the more crowded Siloso area. The people at this place were really friendly too! And as usual, the girls are chick magnets again, attracting lots of girls to come by. HAHAHA! See! Say HI to Shawn, A’s youngest brother. I’m wearing my new bikini top! Will be giving away a set of this bikini in an upcoming Giveaway post! Stay tune! :p The girls! We were trying to get the girls into the water because they have never had a proper swim before. And I really like to see doggies swim because they look so …

Dove

No time for hair treatments in salons? Lie in bed every night worrying about your hair fall problem? Or frown at that receding hairline every time you pull your hair back? If you caught yourself nodding, then you’re not alone. Most people think hair fall problems only occur among ladies with longer hair, but that is in no way true! Although females sporting a short crop do not comb their hair as often as those with long hair, the amount of styling products used by the former pose as potential threats to damaging otherwise healthy hair. Coupled with damages from the environment and other factors like over-exposure in the sun, excessive use of the hairdryer, hair fall is definitely a problem all women share. I am excited to write about this new range of products from Dove today because it has blew me away completely! I have been a regular customer of Dove products, but the usual things I buy off the shelves are just the usual shampoo and conditioner. Chancing upon this new Hair …

Aglio Olio Recipe

A and I has been experimenting with our Aglio Olio recipe for the last couple months. We tried a few times and I think we have finally perfected our very own Aglio Olio! And since we are not selfish people and we love to share, here is the recipe for you to try too! I called it Aileen’s recipe because she invented it! Hahaha. Other than the usual tomato or cream-base pasta, this is another one of the few common pasta we find in cafes. This is also my favourite pasta of all time because it’s a healthier choice and it’s so tasty! But like what many says, the simpler the dish, the harder it is to perfect it. It is such a simple pasta traditionally made with just olive oil and garlic, but there are still so many restaurants out there which would screw it up. This is our rendition of Aglio Olio and I hope you will enjoy it as much as us! Here are some of the ingredients you need. Other than …

Choupinette

It has been some time since I had a decent brunch at a nice cafe. And seeing all the pictures of Eggs Benedicts and Eggs Florentines on my Instagram, I’m itching for one too! After doing some research online, A and I decided to drop by Choupinette. A told me her last time there was a whooping 7 years ago! SEVEN YEARS! She was only 18 years old back then, so high class leh. I think I eat brunches in food courts when I’m 18 years old! Heh. We chatted with the servers and found out that Choupinette has already been around for a decade! It’s a nice little place – not too many seats and I can imagine it being packed to the brim on Sunday mornings. I mean, it was around 1pm on Wednesday afternoon and it was already quite crowded in there. Note to self: Remember to make reservations in advance on weekends! We got a seat near the windows, I always liked seats with a lot of daylight. The decor is …

My Grandparents

I visited my uncle’s place last weekend and came across a photo album with all the old photos. The first time I laid eyes on these photos, I froze. Because I see my Grandma came back to life again. She was young. And very beautiful. Amongst all the discussions with my uncles and aunties about how my Grandma was only 19 when this photo was taken, and about how much my Mom really looks like my Grandma, a frightful thought dawned upon me – my Grandma was once like me, young and free, thinking she would be young forever. I don’t know whether I will bore you to tears with this post. For me, I enjoyed listening to stories about the older generations. My uncles and aunts told me they used to wake up in the morning with bleeding toes because they were bitten by mice They also told me about how my Mom was rebellious enough to steal her passport and go Japan for half a year with her then-boyfriend. One that left the …
